    how to adjust backlash on pion/forward gear

    2002 Mariner, 60 hp 4 cyl 4stroke. I had to replace forward and pinion gear due to pitting.also replaced carrier brg.and all seals in the lower unit. When i opened the L/U it had no shims except one on the drive shaft just below the water pump base. Are the shimms and backlash adjustments...
