Want to part out 1972 Fastwin 18hp

The motor was originally set up with controls and I was told I would get them along with the motor. The old guy took about three months before he asked me to go to his place to pick it up and once we made it to his shed I knew there was no hope. It's a long shaft and I need a short and the...

    A coworker just gave me a 1972 25hp Johnson...

...out of the blue, one of our PM's just stopped by my office and said he had a 1972 or 1973 Johnson that has been sitting in the corner of his garage for years. He said it was missing on one cylinder when they last used it but ran okay otherwise and has never been apart. I asked him what his...

    Is a tiller extension safe?

Under normal circumstances of course...a stick of dynamite is safe if you don't light the fuse or throw it in the campfire.

Adding accessories to my Lowe 1457V like rod holders and live well...

I am looking to add accessories to my Lowe 1457 V without punching unnecessary holes and to make my fishing more enjoyable. I would like to hear ideas and see photos from you all and what you have done to your own boats. I started with the necessities and that was anchor management. I wanted...

How do I clean the points?

Who would have a prop for a late 60's outboard?

The factory manual for my Wizard (Chrysler 9.2) is listed as an 8 X 8, my prop is a 5 X 5 two blade drive pin type prop. Would the 8 X 8 provide more speed, or power?

Evinrude 6hp running at 4 mph wide open...

...I don't have a tach yet but in comparison to the 9.2 Wizard this morning, the Evinrude does not sound like it's running at 4500 rpm. The best it would do was 4 mph. It certainly looks like the throttle mechanism is opening the carb wide open. As ya'll suggested, it may not be running on two...

Please clarify J. Reeves Carb Tuning Procedure

First, is this the correct procedure for my Evinrude 6hp? (Carburetor Adjustments - Two Adjustable N/Vs) (J. Reeves) Initial settings are: Bottom high speed = seat gently, then open 1 turn out. Top slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns. Setting the high and low needle valves...

Advice Needed to Convert Tiller to Stick Control

I would like to convert my Lowe 1457 Sea Nymph to a stick steer setup, is there a system that is universal to convert any tiller steer outboard? If the answer is no, I have a decent home shop and good fabrication skills so what should I look for in a used system?

A Sea King and Wizard is a Chrysler, who has model and serial numbers?

With thanks to ntrsandman who provided a Sea King manual, I see a Chrysler 9.2hp used for the pictures. So I am virtually sure my Wizard like the Sea King is a rebadged Chrysler. The manual shows only one 9.2hp Sea King with a model number of 27909 for 1969 although the 6hp is listed for...

Are there two exhaust ports on a Chrysler 9.2?

Discount-Marine said that my Wizard is a rebadged Chrysler 9.2 I replaced the impeller although it was still pliable but the new impeller had half as many fins as the old one Like 6 to 12. It was a tight fit and I had to bend he fins slightly to make it fit, I assume this is not a problem. How...

    Do ya'll have pic's of a 1965-1974 Chrysler?

Don't flame me and at least let this thread sit here for a day or two. This request has been on the Chrysler board for a day or two with no bites. I am trying to determine if a 1965-1974 Wizard 9.2 sold by Western Auto is a re-badged Chrysler. If it is, I can use a Chrysler service manual. I...

How'd they check RPM in the old days???

There has to be an alternative to this Tiny Tach gizmo. It's not so much the price but I "want it now". Is there any diagnostic tool that will check rpms on an outboard? I used to have a dwell meter with a tach before I had my "modern" 77 Nova with an HEI distributer. Would this work?

9.2 Wizard how similar to Chrysler?

I have a 1976 9.2 Wizard that was supposed to have been made by Chrylser for Western Auto distribution. Is this a re-badged Chrysler where all parts are interchangeable or a completely different motor? I have a new impeller, fuel pump diaphram and carb kit ready for installation. Are there...

Thanks for all the answers to my questions and suggestions today, now I have some answers after looking at the motor and making some changes this evening. For any new people that read this thread, during my first trip out with this 6904E 6hp, the hose was popping off the fuel tank and full...

Backyard Mechanic - Finding Voltage Leaks

In the past, I have taken a spraybottle with water and misted the distributer and ignition wires on my old Chevy started it up in the dark; it was easy to find where bad plug wires were allowing spark jump to the exhaust manifold or other ground sources. Will this work on an OB motor?
