    lower unit going bad?

Finally got my 89 120 working great. When underway every once in a while there is a slight bang from the motor. it doesn't happen at any set RPM just randomly. Is the lower unit clutch going bad? How long until its totally shot and needs a rebuild?

    '89 120 surging after 3k with VIDEO

I have been working on this motor for a while and I am not giving up. I had a problem with warped carb bowls and carbs. Sanded the bowls flat and new gaskets. Pumped ball and believe they are sealed. The ball was still stiff a few days later and no signs of fuel weeping out by the gasket. I...

    '89 johnson 120 surging from 4k-3k

Ive been trying to get this engine going for a while and gave up for a year. When I originally got it it needed a power pack and rebuilt the carbs, primer ball, disconnected vro ( because my old engine was premix), new plugs, etc. It started and ran great up until 2k RPM's. It wasn't overheating...

`89 johnson warning buzzer not working.

I know that the buzzer doesn't work. I have 12V on the purple wire and 6 V on the tan and when I ground the tan wire at the buzzer there is no sound. I also am not sure if the temp switches are working. I checked continuity all the way to the tan wire coming out of the harness that I assume goes...

    `89 Johnson 120 cooling ?

Just got running a 1989 120. I had it on the muffs and it ran great. The telltale had water squirting out with decent pressure. There was never any water coming out of the two small exhaust ports just below the cowl. I just want to know if there is supposed to be. On my old motor `79 140 water...

140 seahorse doesnt want to idle anymore.

The motor worked great for a few trips this season. All of a sudden one day it started to not want to stay running while idleing. It coughs or sneezes and stalls out. I took the carbs apart and blew them out with the compressor but I didn't have anymore Carb cleaner. We reseated all the fuel...

    South Carolina surf fishing.

Going to visit a friend in Mt Pleasant, SC in two weeks. I wanted to bring my Surf setup. I see bass isn't in season. What can I expect to catch if any? What tackle to bring? He's in the CG so I'm sure he can ask around but I would rather know ahead of time. Also any open party boats that are...

    Air silencer extension?

Do I need them? Is it a big deal if I run without them? Will the motor run lean? Its a '79 140 Seahorse. The reason I'm asking is that I replaced the fuel lines and I can't figure out how to get the Silencer extensions on without kinking the fuel lines. I had them installed correctly then I...

    opinions on a possible purchase

I have a good running johnson 140 without tnt. I was looking to buy a hull cheap. I ran across a 76 aquasport 19.6 in really good shape. It needs wiring, and cleaning up but it is solid. It also has a 120 johnson vro with tnt. upon inspection the compression is good, the power pack needs...
