Question about selling new motor, or new motor and boat

I have a 1985 lund, new paint, completely remodeled interior, with a brand new Yamaha F25 with 0 hours (new control box, wires, harness, tach etc). I paid 5000 just for the motor and install of all that stuff. Here's my question, do you generally make more separating the 2? IE selling the new...

    New F25 opinion - carb

I am debating buying a new (2013 but never taken off the skid or started) F25. I have always heard yamaha's are tops in terms of reliability. But now I hear the older ones, especially the F40 have carb issues. Have they worked that out? If not, will putting in sta-bil marine in the gas every...

    New yamaha engine?

I am likely buying a brand new, 2013, Yamaha outboard. It is still in the box on a skid.... the dealer never opened it when it came in. Needless to say I got a good deal. Which brings me to my question. He is just leaving it on a skid and shipping it to me. What all do I need to do to prep...

    Really at a loss

Bought a lund Pro Angler 16, with a redone interior, for a song and a dance because the motor wouldn't stay running. It has a 40hp Evinrude VRO2. The compression is 140-140. Runs for 2 seconds then dies. Will stay running in neutral at WOT and If you start it and immediately put it in gear and...

Is it bad to "underload" the engine

1991 mercruiser 4.3 I have on a 19p prop for watersports. At WOT it is running 5100rpms. My question is this. When I cruise, i cruise at 27mph and around 3800rpm. Anything less and im going 20 mph.... and takes me an hor to get to the island ha ha. Is it bad to cruise at that high RPM, and be...

Does anyone else have ONE horrible boating day a year?

Seems like every year everything goes perfect.... except that ONE day, where everything goes wrong. It's like all the problems happen at once. Then after that day the rest of the year is perfect. Really weird. For instance, one day i was backing my boat into the water and it rolled off the...

    Water in gas

Yesterday it was very wavy at the marina, and as we were filling the boat with gas, a wave came onto the swim platform and water got into the fuel filler. Maybe half of a cup. I know that ethanol absorbs some water but would you recommend using marine sta-bil too?

    Trim question

My up trim button went out. I have been using tilt to trim it out. It just trims up a lot faster. Is this OK?

found the leak, now a question

After having the boat be bone dry every time i pulled her out, this last time about 5 gallons or more poured out the back. I thought it might have something to do with my chips.... nope, tilted the drive up and there were two slits on the top bellows on either side. Not sure why all of a sudden...

Fiberglass resin to fill large chips?

Is it good enough to patch large 1"-2" chips (below waterline) in the gelcoat that are down to the fiberglass? Fiberglass strings are frayed as well. Its polyester resin with no talc, so it's 100% waterproof, or so it says. i wont be painting it till the end of the season. I just want to stop...

I have a couple decent sized holes (below waterline) that are from hitting a sandbar. The fiberglass is showing, but it didn't go all the way through. Im here at the store and they have formula 27.... is this a good choice?

    Leak from chipped hull?

On saturday I was heading out onto the great, ever changing, shallow western basin of erie. I hit a sandbar that wasn't there last week. Didn't do much damage to the prop at all, or skeg. We stayed out about 7 hours and came in. At which point i pulled the plug and about 5 gallons of water...

Mercruiser 4.3 hard starting when warm fix

I posted a while back about my merc 4.3 1991 engine being hard to start when warm. It always starts right up when cold, but after sitting for an hour it takes forever to start. This seems to be happening to a lot of you with this particular engine, and it is always blamed on vapor lock. I found...

    ZERO hour 2003 boat?

I have a chance to buy a never titled, no gas ever in it 2003 bayliner. Since not being titled, it will come with only a 1 year warranty. Now, this begs the question.... Could I run into problems early or later on because it has sat for 8 years untouched and unused? It's from a dealer so it was...

    Ethanol free gas? Where?

Where do you guys get this stuff? According to pure-gas.org there's no place remotely close to Toledo that sells it. It appears that only a few marinas in ohio even sell it. Is all summer blend gas ethanol free?

    Merc 4.3 problem 1991

I have a perplexing problem. My boat starts cold with the flick of the key. If i turn it of, wait 15 seconds, and try and start her again....boom, fires instantly. However, if i let it sit for more than 30 minutes it has a really hard time starting. IE giving a little gas and cranking for 30...

    Merc 4.3 starting question

When cold, i pump the throttle twice and set it to about quarter throttle in neutral. Cranks and starts in a couple seconds. However, when it is warmed up, it takes 3-4 seconds to start as well, but i dont pump the throttle. In my old boat (mercruiser 120) after it was warmed up it would...

    Boat came with joystick rollbar

I have a question. My boat came with the joystick rollbar. This is fine because I want to wakeboard eventually, but does anyone know if i have to keep the bow strap attached even when not boarding? It goes straight through my open bow so no one can sit there. Seeings as the strap only works one...
