    1970 4HP Stator Problems

    My 1970 Merc 40, single cylinder, 4HP motor is in great shape, except my stator is bad. Motor serial number is 2775667, stator is stamped 336 3962. New one are almost $200 (and more). Anybody have a good used one, or anybody interested in a great motor without a stator?

    1970 4hp weak spark

    1970 Merc 40, single cylinder, thunderbolt ignition won't start. The spark appears "weak" on a spark check light as compared to my Evinrude. I've replaced the points and the plug is good. Anybody with experience in these old units have a thought? Troubleshooting sequence?
