Opinions/experience needed for prop selection on 90hp Johnson

I have a 1985 90hp Johnson on a 1979 17' Marquis bow rider. I'm not sure the weight of the boat. Anyway, I got it all running last summer and put a new Rubex 14.8" dia x 17" pitch prop on her. My WOT rpm's are running 4200-4300. Way too low I know so I'm looking to go down in pitch. The...

New Teleflex NFB steering tough to steer at WOT

I recently installed a brand new NFB system on my boat. So far its been great about holding its position while running, and keeping all the vibration away from the helm. But when I get up on a plane it is very hard to turn. When I'm running slow or not in the water, it turns quite freely...

    Water/fuel separator arrangement

Last year I had a lot of problems with fouling of my carbs. So this year I installed a water/separator and an inline filter in the engine compartment. My question....is adding the inline filter overkill and cause more restriction on the suction side of the fuel pump? Should I remove the...

Finally able to get on the water for the first time in over a year!

After getting all of the electrical and machanical/structural issues taking care of on my project boat I took her out this weekend. The cosmetic work isn't done, but who cares. At this point I just want to be on the water. She did well on her first run. I had a couple of bugs to work out...

1985 90 ho johnson turns over but will not start

Tried to fire up my outboard for the first time in over a year and I can get it to turn over, but can't get it to fire off. I checked a couple plugs and don't seem to get any spark. Any ideas what to check/try?

'85 Johnson trim cable wire color question

I'm redoing the wiring on my 1985 90hp Johnson. The white wire with tan stripe goes to the trim guage. But is the black wire with brown stripe a ground for the trim pump? Do you connect it to your negative battery terminal or negative bus?

Just dropping back in to say hi

Hello everyone! Its been a loooooong time since I've been on iboats. Things got really busy here with my life. Work got hecktic, family schedule was all over the place, and frankly I hit a mental and physical breaking point that took me out of the game for a couple of weeks. But now I'm...

    The Boater's Night Before Christmas

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS and all through the boat, The bilge pumps were struggling to keep us afloat, The children were nestled all snug in the berth, (We sleep here most nights to get our money's worth) As Ma read Jackie Collins and I guzzled beer, She said ?You've had enough, now...

    Update on my weight loss

Well I'm 23 lbs lighter now. Good progress but I still have 47 more lbs to go. I've been cutting back on my food intake, dropped the soft drinks, drinking a lot of water, and hitting the elliptical every night. I can actually do 1 hour on the elliptical without dying. I think now I'm going...

For those with young kids or grandkids....

I found this cool way for your child to receive a message from Santa. What's nice about it is you can customize it with the child's name, add pictures, and specifics about what they are wanting for Christmas. You go to the site and fill the info out and then it will send an email to you that...

Ugh...back from the Doc and weigh more than I ever have....

I went to the doctors office today to discuss my weight issue. When I stepped on the scale, I weighed 270lbs. OUCH! And I say ouch for a reason. My joints are killing me, I'm aching all the time, and I just know its because of my weight. When I talked to the doc about how I eat and that I...

    10hp Parts Manual

Thought I share. This is a copy of a parts manual for a late '70s Montgomery Wards Chrysler Seaking 10hp outboard. Model# VWB 52110A. Hopefully the two links work. One pdf file contains the diagrams, the other contains the parts number listings for the diagrams. There is also some info on...

    Hello everyone!

Been along time since I've been in here. Between some rough times at work, my wife's college course load taking off, I've been having to play Mr. Mom 24-7 for the past few months. My project boat was put on pause due to a funding freeze by the CFO (wife) so I haven't really had much to come on...

Had to put an animal down today....

One of our outdoor cats was severely injured yesterday. Well technically he was ours, but the whole culdesac took care of him and loved on him. It appears he was hit by a car and suffered a broken jaw, a hole in the diaphragm, and other internal injuries. He was given pain meds last night...

This video was taken less than an hour from my house. This guy is NUTS. My boat would have been back on the trailer. http://www.news4jax.com/video/24376428/
