Pink Super Tech (Walmart) -50 RV and Marine ok for engine?? I always thought NO...??

I‘ve used -50 for 3 decades here in Pa. without any issues. A couple years ago I found a farmer selling 2 full drums of -50, so I negotiated a VERY good price. He was going to put it in his tractor tires but changed his mind.

    Aluminum Boat Paint

I painted my 14’ jonboat 16 years ago. Original flat green was in poor shape so I scuffed everything with Scotchbrite pads, then rinsed the whole boat down and let it dry for a week. Built and installed the console, then painted it with a 2 part acrylic enamel. Roller and brush, no spray. Since...

Considering a 22-25ft cabin cruiser. thoughts?

It’s Marinette. My slip neighbor has an old 32 footer. I believe the smallest they made were 28’. The hulls and stringers were 100% welded aluminum. Good lake and Bay boats. FWIW, my Silverton is 41 years old and fiberglass. The hull is solid but the stringers were plywood with thick...

    Anchoring a Starcraft Islander 191V

Here’s a screenshot from a similar discussion a few years back, courtesy of ESGWheel. Basically, attach a line from your bow eye to the cockpit, then use it to attach the anchor line.

    Stik-It Anchor pin mount

It’s a mod-V with a bow troller. It’s easier for me to pole anchor aft. Only used for fishing in shallows. Of course, if I need to anchor for awhile I’ll pull out the regular ground tackle and set it off the bow.

    Stik-It Anchor pin mount

I currently have an 8’ fiberglass anchor pin. I’ve been using it by pushing it thru a stern lifting handle on my jonboat. Works ok but if there’s any wave action, it tends to move the boat around enough to move the pin to an angle. I’ve tried tying it off at the top but it doesn’t help...

Who makes covers that are any good?

Have a custom cover made for it. Worth EVERY penny! My Sunbrella covers are used year-round and are now 20 years old. I clean them every other year, then re-apply 2 coats of waterproofing.

It is a major boating holiday.

I was on the water today. Spent most of it sitting on the bridge watching people at the launch ramp. Holidays are always entertaining. i did venture out, but it was in a kayak- in water so shallow none of the crazy boaters could get me! 😂 View from my slip:

    2 stroke longevity?

I have a ‘97 Seadoo GTI (2 stroke) and a ‘85 Evinrude 25 (2 stroke). Both run fine- but, then again, I know how to care for them.

    boat snap on covers

Find a local company and have it made. Shouldn’t be terribly expensive. I just had this replacement bimini top made from Sunbrella and it cost $370. All the other covers you see in this image are 20 years old- and they live outside year-round.

    I should add a 2nd battery...

My 14’ jonboat has a small lawn tractor battery for starting. I added a bow mounted trolling motor a few years back and installed a group 31 battery up there to run it. Worked fine but batteries weren’t connected. Last year I ran a pair of 6 gauge wires to a Perko on/ off switch. This enables me...

are there boat "salvage yards" anywhere in the U.S.?

We have one not far away. It’s part of an old marina and last time I looked, they’re was probably 80-100 boats in their yard, mostly powerboats over 24’. Decent people but not particularly ‘cheap‘ used parts. 10:years ago I rented a tandem trailer from them to pickup a boat I had bought 200...
