    Trim Gauge troubleshooting.......

Well, I did get some time to check it out. The one gauge seems like it acts normal. I made sure the wire is good from the motor/sender connector to gauge is good. The wire off the engine is black with white strip. The wire at the gauge is Purple. I did noticed with testing with a meter that...

    Trim Gauge troubleshooting.......

Ok, well today I got my meter out, ran a test wire to see if the butt connectors at the motor to the trim sender were good. They look fine. I was able to turn the sender to get a different reading at the butt connectors at the motor. One wire went to ground at the engine, the other wire was find...

    Mercruiser Prop Hardware question?

Cool, that's what I did. It just surprised me to see the new prop come with a different style insert and lock nut retainer after all those years of playing with the star retainer.........

    Trim Gauge troubleshooting.......

Finally got around with playing with the trim sender. I tried to turn it mounted on the outdrive, no changes. Removed it from the out drive and tried turning it, not changes. Just pegged in the up position. Any links or ideas on haw to trace down the sender wire? Any other advice is greatly...

    Mercruiser Prop Hardware question?

Howdy, Ok, I know I am old, but did Mercruiser change the hardware on the sterndrive props? I got a new prop with a new hub kit, and the insert is shorter than the "brass" one that came off and the nut keeper is different, the old one was a "star" and the new one has two tabs.... Mercruiser part...

    Trim Gauge troubleshooting.......

Howdy, Working on my 1986 Chris Craft Scorpion with a 260HP Alpha One. A few years back, I had the transom done and been using the boat and slowly getting things "back together". So now I am working on the trim gauge. I thought I would ask for some things to check before I dive in. A couple of...

1986 Chris Craft gas gauge or sender issue?

Finally got it figured out. The VDO gauge has a small nut on the ground post that holds the spade on. The nut had come loose, which made the ground flaky. Once I went in a tighten it all was good. The wiring was intact and I check for shorts. When the ground on the gauge was "loose", it would...

1986 Chris Craft gas gauge or sender issue?

I did read the old sender before taking it out, and was getting "flaky" readings and it was a last replaced 15 years ago. It was the old cheesy arm type, so since I already pulled it out I replaced it with the newer style VDO version. The gauge connections were hard to get to unless I removed...

1986 Chris Craft gas gauge or sender issue?

Well, I pulled the fuel gauge, and used the old sender on my work bench and it wall worked perfect. SO, it has to do with the wiring in the boat. Will start going through that. But at least I don't need to get a new gauge and try to match it with the other ones ;-)

1986 Chris Craft gas gauge or sender issue?

Finally got around with checking the boat gauge. I did replace the old school sender with a new style VDO sliding sender. Same issue. The gauge stays on full. IF I unhook the pink cable at the sender, the gauge goes to empty. IF I un hook the ground cable at the sender, it goes to empty. SO I...

1986 Chris Craft gas gauge or sender issue?

Had an interesting issue come up last time on the water. When we went out for the first time, our gas gauge looked like we had under 1/8th of a tank. So, the next time we went out, I put in 30 gallons of gas ( 60 gallon tank). However the gas gauge reads full. Could this be a bad float in the...

    Fuel treatment question.....

Thanks for the feedback. I have had this boat up here with me since 2008, did not know it had a fuel shut off, so will not drain the carb. I don't drain the carbs on my sports cars for winter, but I do run my snowmobiles dry ..... Do you use regular Sta-Bil or the marine stuff?

    Fuel treatment question.....

So, going out for the last time for the season on Friday. Going to treat the fuel I have and run it to get the fuel down. I did noticed that coming out of the fuel tank, there is fuel shut off (never noticed it). Thinking I should turn that off while at the dock and let the carb run out of...

    Fuel treatment question.....

Thanks for the input. I was planning to go run the boat for a few hours to use up as much fuel as possible. But now I am thinking of not filling it up afterwards and let it sit during the winter, since then that fuel will sit there for 6 months. But rather fill it up with fresh fuel in the...

    Fuel treatment question.....

Greetings all. Just got my 1986 Chris Craft Scorpion back from the repair shop after having the transom redone. I missed most of the season this year, but they seem to have done a great job, as the boat has no sign of water coming in and it is running like it should. However, our season is...

Transom repair done, what type of paint for bilge?

Looks like my boat is coming back together. Just got back from the fiberglass shop, looks good, but wanted to paint it back to the original black color. I see some paints out there for bilge, but nothing in black. I have done some searches, and some recommend a two part epoxy and other just a...

'86 Chris Craft 210 with Alpha one rot repair?

Looks like they are talking about the rear transom, engine mount stringers and front of engine bulkhead. They also thought the swim platform should be looked at. No sign of any damage to the stringers forward of the motor. Not sure how they would know unless they pull up the floor........
