    Beaching?

I have a 24' Lonestar I use on Lake of the Woods. I like to go out for the weekend, pull in to some secluded bay, and spend the time with my large dog. If I come in to the beach bow first, I need to provide a ladder for the dog to get from the cabin to the fore-deck and another (longer ladder)...

    Classic Cruisers

I just loved the "How Old Is Your Boat" thread but I REALLY love the classic cruisers so I thought I would start a thread specifically to post pictures of your classic cabin cruisers (or larger boats). Mine is a 1966 Lone Star Cruise Liner III built by Chrysler. It is 24 feet, powered by a...

    Norcold DE-251D door gasket

I have a Norcold DE-251D fridge in my cruiser but the door gasket was shot. After WEEKS of trying to find a replacement I found they were out of production and nobody had any old stock. Searching the Internet I found a LOT of people were searching for gaskets for older Norcold fridges so I am...

    Single women boaters?

I did a few searches and didn't get any hits so I will ask ..... How many women are there here who own and captain their own boat? Any others that do their own maintenance?

    Muffs (?) for Penta 270

I would like to test run my engine without using a drum for water but I can't figure out what kind of muffs would work with a Volvo Penta 270. The 270 has its water intake sort of wrapped around the front of the leg but I haven't seen any sort of wrap-around muffs??!! Suggestions? Thanks

Please do it RIGHT or don't do it!

I am working on a 1966 cabin cruiser that has been through at least 4 owners prior to me. This fall I am replacing the helm and that means disconnecting and tracing all the wires. The things I have found are down right scary, things like 12 volt unfused hot wires cut off and dangling around...

    Anchoring alone?

I have just finished my first season of boating (since the 1960's!) with my 24 cabin cruiser and I am planning the changes and upgrades for next year. I usually travel alone - well, with my hound, but she isn't much of a deck hand - and like island camping on a sandy shore. I have been...

Slant Six dies .... I should know this.....

I have a '66 Lone Star with a Chrysler slant six that normally runs pretty well but every once in awhile when it has been running low RPM for awhile (like 1500 to 1800) it wants to die, particularly when I try to change the throttle setting. If it dies, it does NOT want to restart! (It did that...

    Chrysler Slant Six - identification???

I have a 1966 Lone Star with a Chrysler Slant Six. The valve cover is marked "Chrysler 150 HP" and gives a lot of maintenance information but I can NOT find a nameplate on this engine! It is not on either side of the block, not on either end of the block, and isn't on the bell housing (in any...

    Volvo 270 steering?

Okay, I have searches the forums and not found very much so here is my issue: I picked up a 1966 Lone Star that has a Volvo Penta 270 stern drive. At low speeds it is one finger steering both ways. At 7 Knots (1600 RPM), it turns to port with one finger but turning to starboard requires both...

    Restoring clear (Eisenglass) plastic?

The Eisenglass (clear plastic) in the camper top of the boat I just got is a bit cloudy. There are a few products on the market that claim to restore the clarity .... does anyone have experience with the various products? Thanks!

Off of blocks, on to bunks? An easy way?

It seems to keep coming up (since I now have two boats and only one trailer) - how to get a boat from blocks on to a bunk trailer without straining anything. I have an Ez-Loader bunk trailer and when we loaded my 21 foot Sylvan I/O from blocks on to the trailer, it was a @$#% of a pull! We...

New (to me) Cruise Liner III

I just picked up a 1966 Cruise Liner III with a slant six and a Vulvo outdrive - neat old boat. Hope I didn't make a bad investment.

    Is there a cure?

I come from a long line of mariners, fishermen, on both sides and always seemed to be around boats and mariners. I owned my first boat back in the 1960's, a 26' steel cruiser on Lake Erie, then life, career, and travel got in the way. Last winter I picked up a 21' bow rider at a bargain. It...

    Sealing nylon?

I made a temporary boat top from nylon and I need to waterproof it, not "water resistant" but waterPROOF. I have used paraffin and white gas to waterproof canvas but don't know if it works on nylon.... I tried silicon and just about drown in a thunderstorm this weekend!

    Visible enough?

Since I will probably be rearranging my 1987 Sylvan when I replace the rest of the sole next winter, I didn't want to use expensive fabric for a camper top this year so I picked up some rip-stop nylon. They didn't have enough in a single colour so I had to go with 2 colours. I am wondering if...

    DIY Boat Top

I am going to make a camper top for my 21' I/O bow rider and searching the Net and iboats isn't coming up with much information. Has anyone seen good information online about handling seams, zippers, reinforcing, etc. to do a nice professional job? (I have sewed everything from clothing to a...

L4 Single Stick to Dual Stick swap?

The Yamaha L4 3.0 in my '87 Sylvan has a Uni-Sick control that drives me nuts - I come from "large boats" and prefer dual sticks. I would like to change out the single stick for a dual, side-mount, but I haven't torn it apart yet to see what kind of cable ends it uses. Does anyone know...

    It runs!

I took my new-to-me 87 Sylvan 21' out on the Winnipeg River today for its inaugural test run and it ran beautifully. I now have the faith to continue the restoration. :D I remembered to put in the plug, undo the transom straps, didn't hit any Rock Fish, and nobody fell overboard ..... time...

    Towing 3500# with a Colorado?

I have a 21 foot Sylvan I/O (approximate weight 2500 pounds) on an EZ-Loader trailer (about 950 pounds). My Colorado is rated at 4,000 pounds but I am a little nervous about how "generous" Chevy's rating is and if it would have enough traction for a boat ramp. (Hills are no problem here on the...
