Does anyone know if it is alright to just eliminate the 3-prong disconnect and "direct pipe" the fuel line from the outboard to the gas tank on the mid 50's seahorses?

The parts manual lists the recoil spring as 41-197.....this part # does not seem to come up with anything.....anyone have the correct part number?

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best spark plugs for a 1958 Johnson 5.5 hp Seahorse? NGK has an option for "surface discharge" plugs......any thoughts on that?
