Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

The boat is now running great, in the yard. I will water test it soon. I ended up replacing the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, crossed my fingers, fired it up and the shake is gone. What a chore this has been from replacing the bellows, to the bell housing, the new shift cable and then...

    Deadman Switch?

If you are just putting around a lake fishing you probably don't need the chain on the anchor but in a current, tide or in windy conditions it will help you avoid dragging the anchor. I have 2 setups for my boat, one for the lake and a bigger anchor with longer line with chain for the ocean...

    rigging 2 kneeboards to boat

We used to have all kinds of fun pulling 2 kneeboarders. I was really good at cutting, holding it and drowning the other guy under a wall of water. I didn't have a pylon. We used the 2 hooks on the back of the boat used to tie down the boat on the trailer.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

Okay. I was able to check the compression and it read as follows from front to stern #1 165, #2 165, #3 160, #4 155. From what I have been reading these numbers are within a good range so what is next to stop this shaking? Could it be the timing? How does one turn the motor to find TDC on...

    Bow light not working

No? If the power is going through the switch out to the light it could be stopped by a diode. I have experienced this when installing LED lights in my model trains. Those things can be tricky.

    Bow light not working

If the new light is a LED then it could have a diode in it and having the wires right is essential.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

The lake trial went well with zero water getting in and the shifting worked as it should but there is a new problem. I now have a vibration. After about 5 minutes of putting round we went a bit faster and I noticed a tick from the engine at about 3000rpm and the boat felt a bit sluggish. We...

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

I believe the shifting is okay since the shifting was fine in the water but now the vibration is a new problem.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

Good news. It is all back together and I started the engine. The next step is to take it out and give it a try.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

I bought a new to me bell housing and it did not come with the gear lube dribble valve. I was able to remove the brass nipple from the old bell housing without breaking anything but how do I get the dribble valve out? I can't seem to find a good diagram or a video of how it is down. From the...

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

Hmmmm Those are not priced badly considering all that is present and what just the bell housing alone seems to be going for.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

I finally got to meet up with the local welder that works on boats etc and he said that the break is in a really difficult spot to access and considering there are threads involved he could not guarantee the work so now I'm in need of a new/used bell housing. I found one on Ebay that looked...

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

I don't know. I bought this boat when it was about 4 years old and I do not think the cable would have been changed. I blame myself for beating on this too much. It is just crazy that the brass threads wouldn't release. It was like it was glued in there. This is the nightmare, to have to redo...

Is there any chance of repairing this and what would I use?

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

It would be great if I could fix it. I can't believe it cracked and chunked like it did.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

Well the good news is what was left of the brass threads from the gear shift cable that were stuck in the bell housing is now out. I bought an extractor set and went to work on it. The bad news is I broke a chunk out of the bell housing. A quick look online has used ones at $250 and new...

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

Good news is the cable is out. The ring of brass remains stuck in the hole. I'm so nervous about damaging the threads on the bell housing but going slow with the appropriate bit... why do things like this happen in the worse spot to work in? This whole job has been a nightmare.

Replaced Bellows now gears won't engage fully?

Wow that cable casing was really hard to cut. I thought it was just a hard plastic but it had steel wire inside it! I finally got it done using a sawzall after throwing everything else at it. I have now found out why the brass nut was not coming out even with the special socket and it is the...
