5.7 Vortec Mercruiser , water ingestion.

Heads are off now , so no pressure testing . Not hydro locked or even close to that , hull is a resto mod 1975 Mako Center Console 23' , designed for sporty water . Took her to inland lake in South Carolina ( for our retirement next March ) that doesn't get rough enough to have water ingestion...

5.7 Vortec Mercruiser , water ingestion.

Wondering about that . Old gasket material was built up around the two water ports on intake manifold , almost 1/4" thick , rest of gasket had nothing on it . Did buy the upgraded Fel Pro gasket ,which had more meat than the plastic stock one . Also put a small amount of gasket maker around the...

5.7 Vortec Mercruiser , water ingestion.

Coolant was low , filled it with anti freeze which got sucked into the crankcase . Did not pressure test . Riser height is around 12-16" . Stock cam. Yes , correct base timing . Straight inboard . One exhaust port , no flappers , except the one hanging on the end of the exhaust at transom . No...

5.7 Vortec Mercruiser , water ingestion.

Recent purchase , had it over the winter , closed cooling system , anti freeze checked out to minus 20 . Put about 20 hours on her when she decided to mix the coolant with the oil . New risers and exhaust manifolds , no engine oil cooler . Pulled intake manifold , water jacket hole had more...

How to wire in a fishfinder

I do not know any Charter boats on Lake Ontario that hard wire anything but there bilge pump into the battery. ALL electronic instruments are wired into the dash , with a circuit breaker . None of them experience any kind of electrical interference . This includes , radar ,auto pilot ...

    How much is it worth?

Spider cracks are superficial, nothing you can do about it . Motor sputtering after shutting off could be timing off a tad . The 4.3s are good dependable engines. Personally not a fan of Trophy's , I would keep looking . The hull has no toe kicks , so you cant get your feet under the gunwales...

Inspecting a 2007 Mako 284 - what to look for?

There's a bunch of Mako sites on Facebook, that would be your best bet in getting any feedback on a particular model .

    New old boat checklist.

If the tell-tale was sputtering before the new impeller, which you indicated in your wording . I would be looking at that passageway being semi clogged up .

    Family of 5, 19ft or 21ft?

Sea Rays are barely a step above a Bayliner as far as hull construction goes . One of the more over-rated boats. Grady Whites are not much better as most of them need transoms , stringers and or gas tanks . After all the suggestions it looks like the OP is going to go against them , 19'...

    Family of 5, 19ft or 21ft?

21' is going to be a much better ride in any sort of chop . You'll have room for coolers and gear , not so much in a 19' . Two feet is a huge difference when your talking a 19 vs 21 ' hull . I would be sticking with a 21' , something will show up , be patient.

    Questions about sink drainage

99% of sinks in boats drain overboard . I've never witnessed one that drains into a tank , black or grey .

    Long block replacement suggestions

If money isn't a problem, I would be dropping 502's in . Same footprint, same transmission and prop shaft . Props would be different, that's about it . The 32 Tournament is no speed demon with the 454s , the 502's would be a huge improvement in that department.

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

What exactly are you looking at ? Make, model , drive line ? Are we talking 10K or 100K ? Some boats have a reputation for bad transoms , stringers and gas tanks . I/Os have there issues just like some outboard motors . On the other hand some have great reputations , minimal issues and have a...

    Survey

Should be zero difference. Straight inboards are aligned with engines off . So a 36" boat with twin 502's when taking off is going to develop gobs of torque, the cutlass bearing ( a 6" long plastic sleeve in the prop shaft struts ) takes all torque. If it's off by hundredeth's of a fraction ...

Mid 2000's Sea Ray 320 Ride

Your in the 1 mpg club ,not to be confused with the mile high club , regardless of tab position. Stuffing the bow in rough water may actually improve your "fuel milage ", by fractions on the dollar at the pump . It's something you don't dwell on when you're in the " club " .
