    69 merc 650 shift shaft alignment

    does anyone have any advice on aligning the shift shaft when i restab the lower unit. i tried stabbing it in neutral the other night, as well as having the gear control in neutral, but when i tightened up the bolts and shifted into forward then tried to shift back into neutral it stayed in forward.
