    Boat Ramp Disaster

I drive a 96 Dodge 4x4 diesel and I always back down and pull out of the ramp in 4x4. I like the front tires on solid non slippery pavement!

    Alumacraft Flying D

The serial number should be stamped into the center transom support in the bottom of the boat.

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 new to me

SeaRider thanks for all of the tips. The tabs are a part of the boat hull and were installed factory. They are only about one inch wide and you can see how long in the attached photo. The hull has a 'rocker' in the last four inches of the hull and the tabs are installed about 3/8 higher than the...

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 draws power with the ignition switch off.

My Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 has about .3 amp draw from the battery with the ignition switch off. I'd noticed that the battery will be weak after a few weeks of not use. My thoughts are that there should be no current draw at all with the key off. Seeking advice. Thanks.

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 new to me

Thanks again for all of the advice. I just returned from a week of boating with the new 13" prop. Here is a link to where I bought it on Ebay: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...=1856488098001 Max RPM achieved was in the 5,100 to 5,200 range. I believe my motor is a bit deep in the water...

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 new to me

Sea Rider, I'll attach a photo of the jack plate on my 1958 Feathercraft with its 1957 Johnson 35hp motor. I can get about 30mph out of this rig. Yes, I adjust up until I get ventilation on hard turns and then go down a bit. As I'm after top end and am not that interested in doing donuts in the...

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 new to me

I sitting here going through the online service manual looking over the wiring. I want to avoid at all cost using the hull of my aluminum boat for the ground circuit. It looks like my tilt/trim gauge may be getting ground via a support bracket. I don't like that but don't know if is getting...

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 new to me

Absolutely! From what I gather this motor is rated to be run between 5,000 and 5,700 rpm. I will prop it so with the lightest load it is hitting 5,700 rpm. I did notice that this same block when carbed, reeded and spark advanced to make 50hp that the suggested operating range is 5,150 to 5,850...

Tohatsu M40D2 3C8 new to me

Just yesterday a new to me 40hp motor in almost mint condition. I downloaded a PDF version of the mfg. service manual and am seeking a print version. This is a short shaft motor with tilt and trim on a 1954 Feather Craft Vagabond. I'm interested of course in firing it up but am waiting until I...

Feedback on Yamaha 150 ETLK and Sketer Starfire 150 bass boat.

I have an opportunity to pick up a 1985 boat/motor/trailer combo for $1,000. The motor is the Yamaha 150ETLK and the boat is a Skeeter Starfire 150. The trailer looks like the original trailer. The reason I'm posting this here instead of in the Yamaha/Suzuki forum is because I'd like opinions...

    Alumacraft Cuddy Cabin Luxury Liner

Thanks for the notice jbCurt. I have heard tell of a model called the Luxury Liner. Here's an Aluma Craft ad or news release from 1953. This looks to be the identical hull of the later Cruiseabout. I've read of a couple of models that preceded the Cruiseabout, one is the 'Cruise Liner' and the...

Information on 1958 and 59 Scott Atwater 60 HP outboards with generators

Hi Don, thanks for a timely thread! Please do keep us posted on your progress. I just picked up a 1960 Flying Scott 60hp I hope to use on my 1958 FeatherCraft Vagabond. I've not bought a service and parts manual but will be soon. I'm searching for a tach also. Here are some photos:

Alumacraft, Crestliner, or something else? (Help me identify my boat)

Re: Alumacraft, Crestliner, or something else? (Help me identify my boat) I can tell by the floor to seat support and the c-channel floor support in the third photo that it is a Cherokee Aluminum Boat made by the McKenzie Boat Mfg. Co. of Tennessee. There is not much info out there but I'm...

    1951 Aluma Craft Model R

I've been looking for a while now and finally found one! The hull is in pretty good shape but does need a little work. Someone in the past has added two transom support brackets but did no major damage in doing so. All hardware is there. It looks like it may have had a side steering console in...

    Mercury 55E 40HP

Re: Mercury 55E 40HP I did have the serial number wrong, it is 981531 like you figured. The carb number is AJ50A. It would be great if you have a spare needle. I assume I should be looking in to rebuilding the carbs. I hope parts kits are still available. Thanks.

    Mercury 55E 40HP

Serial #581531. I couldn't find what year it was using the links at the top of this forum. I need a low speed needle for one of the carbs and a new timing belt. Good links to Merc information are welcome. It also seems to be missing what may 4 rubber pads behind the removable face plate and...
