    searching for pee hole

The ID plate, on mine, says Mercury, Brunswick WI. I'd have thought if it weren't a Mercury, they would not have put Mercury on the ID plate. Very confusing.

engine swapped now starts won't die

Not sure of SN, there's one # on the ID plate but a different # on top of the fly wheel where the SN is located on my 150 Merc., not sure which is SN. We hooked the orange wire form controls to Black & yellow wire from eng. as Chris said, worked like a charm, starts & dies just as it should...

engine swapped now starts won't die

Chris... sorry for the lack of info, We have no idea of how old either eng. is. Thanks for the tip on wire color, at least a point toward the right direction, we were lost... Never thought of frying anything by unhooking the batt. We just got excited as eng wouldn't stop, & just went to trying...

engine swapped now starts won't die

Embarrassing with so little info, but, Shade tree mechanic swapped motors for my bro. Older (?) 40 merc. for newer (?) 40 merc. Didn't swap controls & wires, just cut wires. Old harness from controls had 6 wires, newer eng. had 9 or 10 wires coming out of harness from eng. We've finally figured...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

A lot I "don't" know about props & hubs. Pictures of both those props shoe the thrust washed "down in" the hub of the prop. All the videos I've seen & the props I have, the thrust washer is flanged, the small side goes down in the hub & the larger side rests on the outer edge (rim) of the...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

That looks like a pressed in hub, in 4th pic. or the thrust washer they put on there is wrong. my 48-11074 A40 23P certainly isn't a pressed in.????

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

No, length is correct, only thing is the sleeve seem like it should be snug in the prop, but it isn't. I haven't installed it with the hub in it & wondering if when tightened the sleeve may kind'f swell, like in an expansion plug. Also can't believe everything you read on computers, I read one...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

Having trouble finding info. But thinking I've found stuff I never would have thought. It seems all, or most all, modular (Interchangeable) hub kits fit most all brand "props". A mercury hub kit that fits my 1988 Merc XR2 150 W/ Quicksilver Lazer II, I can take the hub kit out & put it in a...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

I got the #'s off both props, Quicksilver & Quicksilver Lazer II. I Punched in & ready to select by # and found the hubs seem to be designated for what eng. (lower unit) you have rather than the prop you have. Now even way more confused. I have a 1988 Mercury XR2 V6, 2 stroke & am not finding...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

I had a new hub for a mercury prop in a box, it was loose. Then took a hub out of a Quicksilver Lazer II & it fit the same loose. Are you saying there are different sizes of hubs for Mercury props? & there may be one that fits tight?

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

I've read & watched u-tube videos & they all say tap the hubs in with rubber mallet or hammer. When I drop mine in, it just slides in & needs no tapping. when all the way in I can feel a slight bit of looseness, not loose & floppy by no means, but can feel it isn't a tight fit. Tried 2 different...

New to me Lazer II with 3 square PVS vent holes

Well dang, now confused again, Mark is saying each blade of the prop needs equal venting, but it seems dingbat's prop only had a vent on one blade. Anyone else that's been there & done that got ideas.

New to me Lazer II with 3 square PVS vent holes

This helps. I was just wondering if the prop may seem kind'f out of balance if 2 holes had plugs & 1 did not. 2 blades would be running in less aerated water while the other 1 (at the not plugged hole) would be running in more aerated water. If dingbat's prop only had one hole, that should...

New to me Lazer II with 3 square PVS vent holes

Mercury Lazer II has 3 square vent holes, With this prop can regulate the performance by installing 1, 2, or 3 of the plugs, or do I got to have all 3 holes the same, open or closed?

Old 115 all wires have insulation falling off

Some of the old Mercury (Tower of power) wiring harnesses were bad about the insulation getting brittle & falling off, Mercury realized this & fixed it, Does anyone know what year this problem was corrected. My buddy's ( Mid 70"s ) 115 if we look at the wires, the insulation just falls off.

Can't find elusive alum. trailer wheel

Lug centric wheels seem to be a thing of the past. My trailer has alum. 15" X 6" on 4.5" bolt pattern, outlaw 2 wheels, that are "LUG CENTRIC". The trailer has a mount for a spare tire, but had no spare when I bought it. Not being able to find a "LUG CENTRIC", I bought & tried a hub centric, &...

    1974 merc 1150 idle adjust

My buddy's old boat starts & runs fine, but idles at appx. 1300 rpm. It idled fine till he had a non professional (shade tree) mechanic work on a fuel pump problem, pump problem fixed, but now excessive idle speed. We found the idle adjust screw, at the dist., & started backing it off. The idle...

O/B on jack plate, how high is too high???

19' fiberglass bass boat with 150 merc. What will be first thing I will notice when I get the eng. too high. I've been raising it a little at a time & nothing seems to change. Nose goes quite high on take off then plains off nicely, I'm thinking the higher the eng. the less the nose will lift...
