It does make sense. I do wonder how deep the water has to be in the bilge before it gets up to the drive shaft. Can see that?

How Do I Remove a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

@alldodge - the new bearing of OEM and does have a grease port. Per a very experienced repair shop owner, the function of the shaft seal is: if water gets into the bilge, the seal prevents it from getting to the u-Joints. @rolmops - The mechanic did use the factory bearing puller. Even that...

How Do I Remove a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

I found the answer: Yes the rounded edge goes IN leaving the open side out, facing aft. That was in my official OMC Service Manual. P 6-11 . The manual also says to coat the metal case with OMC gasket sealer. Since I do not have the official tool to install it, I decided that I can use the old...

Can I Prevent Corrosion and a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

Agreed. The O-ring is part number 0202893 and is called "O-ring, Bellcrank". Note it was labeled incorrectly on the Crowley Marine website as "Water tube extension O-ring" I will replace that as well. I think that you are referring to the Pivot Housing.

How Do I Remove a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

I have been spraying with "Big Blaster" a penetrating spray for 3 weeks. Re replacing the wood with steel. The strength of the wood has not become a factor. How Do I Remove a Stuck Gimbal Bearing?

I could use some suggestions for removing a stuck gimbal bearing. Water got into the U-Joint bellows and onto the bearing and it rusted. I did not think that the rust was that extensive because the boat was running fine but had a slight rumble in the bearing. The water getting into the bellows...

I'm not worried about sinking the boat. I just want to be able to tell if I'm getting water onto the U-Joint bellows. This is a 91 Four Winns with an OMC Cobra OD.

Can I Tell if Water is Getting into the U-Joint Bellows?

I spoke to a boat mechanic and he thought that if water gets into the u-Joint bellows it would also get into the bilge through the gimbal bearing. I'd like to hear from some of the guys on here. Do you agree? Thanks

I had a welder take a look, and he thought it would be tough to weld even after cutting off the most corroded part. He said that, even if he could do it, it might take 4 -5 hrs at $120/hr = $600. I have spent $250 on parts, gimbal bearing, bellows, sealer etc. I will be paying $150 to remove...

For example, some fonts are "Sans Serif" meaning without serifs. A serif is the small horizontal lines on characters like a capital I. Note, on my computer, while typing here, the font is Sans Serif so even the capital I does not have the horizontal lines.
