    Bearing carrier stuck

Heat with the puller loaded up did the trick. Had previously been heating and treating with penetrating oil for a couple days to give the oil time to loosen things a bit (Not convinced it did much but maybe 🤷‍♂️). Loaded the puller pretty darn tight, put the heat to the forward contact area as I...

    Bearing carrier stuck

Thanks Chris, sounds like I can put a lot more heat to it. Another question, is the carrier gonna drag all the way out, or is the housing “relieved” beyond the “machined fit” area? Can’t really get much in the bore to clean up the little bit of gunk that’s in there. Do I need to make a...

    Bearing carrier stuck

I should also mention it’s a 2000 year drive, was always fresh water to my knowledge ( I’m the third owner, had it since 13) until the last 2 seasons when I slipped it in sea water…I don’t believe the carrier has ever been out prior to my ownership.

    Bearing carrier stuck

Applying heat on both sides of where the blue tape is. Heating to about 250-275*f. Then while it’s cooling, I add some kroil inside at the contact areas and some medium love taps with plastic head hammer to the same taped areas to try and work the kroil into the contact areas. Time and patients...

    Bearing carrier stuck

Hi guys, Im sure I’m not the first to ask this and probably not the last. Got a alpha 1 gen 2, trying to get the bearing carrier out. Got the nut and locking ring out. Have been heating, and soaking with kroil in cycles. How much heat is too much? She’s stuck in there good, got a good puller on...

    Uniden depth finder replacement

Hi everyone, I have a uniden QT206 in dash depth finder that is very intermittent in operation. Everything looks to be in order transducer wise. I just want to replace this thing and start fresh but it seems that my dash was designed around the face size of this unit, the face is 2-3/8". All the...

    Rear engine mounts

Hi guys, I have a 2000 stingray 190LX with a merc 4.3L v6 and a alpha 1 gen II outdrive. This is my first I/O boat that I bought at the end of last season. My question is regarding the rear engine mounts. While I had the drive off this winter I checked the alignment and found it a bit tight but...

    Sealer on riser gaskets?

Hello group, I am in the process of installing a conversion kit for the one piece to two piece exhaust on my 2000 4.3l v6. Got all merc stuff. I thought I read some where that sealer is not used any more on the manifold to riser joint gasket. The instructions say to use perfect seal but I'm...

    Exhaust manifolds

Hello group, I have been informed by others on this forum that my one piece exhaust manifolds should be replaced before they ruin my motor. It is a 2000 4.3L v6 s# L617639. looking for input about the aftermarket vs oem. sounds like I should stay away from GLM. I found out that Merc stuff is...

    Upper shift shaft.

Hi guys, I have a question on my alpha 1 gen 2 drive. I changed out the upper shift shaft bushings and seals in the bell housing. I know there was an updated upper bushing/seal unit but it's too late for that now as I already installed the original style stuff. My question is which way should...

    Mercruiser part numbers

Does anyone know what the difference may be between two parts that are the same number except one will have a "Q" the other will have a "T" as the second to last digit? Example was a cap and rotor kit and for a 2000, 4.3L in an online quicksilver cat. Supposedly they will both fit but what's the...

    exhaust flappers

Re: exhaust flappers I figured I'd show what I saw when I took the manifold off, Rust stain is in #6. So if exhaust manifolds need periodic replacement why does the block and intake survive?

    exhaust flappers

Hi guys, new member here. I bought a 2000 Stingray LX at the end of last summer and I'm getting familiar with this boat. I've never owned a boat with an I/O before. It's got a merc 4.3L vortec with the one piece exhaust manifolds. Whats the proper position of the exhaust flappers at rest? I took...
