    agreed run it with the drive off. did you replace the gimbal and Ujoints ? if ti sat they may be bad. Ujoints are tough to check out via feel.     always some nuances but that is one thing chevy did well 2 filters covering 60 years... If you haven't had one a 3.0 is one of the best engines to work on and the one we had served us very well for 20+ years.

    Rotella T4 15w 40, I also used to run super tech 20w50 no issue in my 3.0. Don’t over think it too much.

    willing to bet if you take cap rotor and coil off you should be able to get the covers off with out pulling the dizzy. Its been a few years since I had my 3.0 ... If you do need to pull it yes 3/8 is close to 10 mm. No pic came through

    amazing what a diff it makes with just a bit of heat. You can do the same getting bearings on shafts etc by heating them. We have a couple bearing heaters at work that Ive used for jobs like this.

    Same here the sun tach and dwell I bought in 1990 ish died, so I use my fathers that he bought in the 60 s, still works. garage Sales and FB market place are good places to look.

    normally a shop tach is for temp hook up either on a plug or the negative side of the coil. if you need a timing light I would get a timing light with a tach. I keep waiting for my old dial back timing light to die (1990 vintage...)...

    Are you happy with the boat in general. Was just at the Philly boat show and thought the fit and finish on the chaprrals was pretty good. Was not impressed with the Sea Ray SPXs. SLXs were comfortable interiors on the other hand.
