    I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with us! Piecing the puzzle together, it is clear that those powered trim sender wires are a clear corrosive hazard. @tpenfield had a similar corrosion issue and also had trim sender wires in the water judging from the pictures.

    The corrosion on the gimbal ring is definitely corrosion and not pitting or scale. I believe the source to be the loose, dangling, and formerly-powered trim senders wires which are right next door (and have been since disabled).

    Either way I have now disabled them. Seeing as the corrosion was closest to the wires, I believe this was the issue: while running, 12 volts were applied and a "battery" was created causing the electrons to flow from the open circuit into the non-conductive freshwater to the least noble metal...

    My understanding of this chart is that the more active anode (magnesium) should protect better in pure freshwater like the Great Lakes (Lake Michigan and Superior)? Even the one aluminum anode on the prop shaft also isn't corroding!

    No salt here--in fact in saltwater, stray current is much less destructive because of the conductivity of the water itself. She was run on brackish<fresh water on the Upper Chesapeake for a few seasons, but since 2023 has been on the Great Lakes. There was no corrosion of the bolts, trim lines...

    The anodes are not depleting and I have no idea why--maybe a residual aluminum oxide barrier?; maybe the packaging was wrong and I got zinc anodes? It looks like the metal is "passivated" for what it's worth. I replaced the existing aluminum ones with magnesium in 2024 (did not splash in 2024)...

    End of Season oil changes?

    I would say every 100 hours for good quality full synthetic oils like Mobil 1 15W-50 and Merc High Performance Gear Lube. I would also add that it is wise to change the oil every year due to acids/moisture in the oil no matter the number of hours.
