    1963 Johnson 5.5 Throttle Adjustment

Hi All, I just finished a carb rebuild on a 1963 Johnson CD-20 5.5 hp outboard (should be similar to all of the 50s and 60s Evinrude and Johnson 5.5s). I haven't tried running it yet but I put everything back together and it appears that the plate that pushes on the little roller wheel to open...

Sears/Clinton 3.5 HP Outboard Service Info--Points, Impeller, and Manuals

Just wanted to post some info on the 1960's Sears/Clinton 3.5 Hp motors that I see around a lot. I just sold mine so I wrote this all up for the new owner. Hope it helps someone! Service and Operation Info Operation: 1. Fill gas tank with premixed 24:1 gas:oil mixture (use TCW-3 outboard...

    1968 Sears 3.5 Spitting Fire

I recently tuned up a 1968 Sears 3.5 (made by Clinton). It usually takes awhile to start, so I decided to Seafoam it (in bucket not muffs). Ran it at high idle, gave it a few sprays and then enough to stall it. Let it sit a while and started up, plenty of carbon coming out. Per the instructions...

1963 Johnson 5.5 (CD-20C) Hard Starting and Idle Problems

I have a 5.5 Johnson I got for free recently. The pull start is VERY hard to pull (for reference I am a young, pretty strong guy). Is this normal for these engines? Or is there something that could be causing excess friction? (It is in neutral.) I was able to get it started a few times, but it...

1960s Sears Clinton 3.5 Running rough

I recently posted a thread trying to get my Sears 3.5 running. I was successful and took the motor out for a roughly 30 minute trip. There and back it was fine. I stopped for a little while and then continued running it. The motor then started to misfire (if that's the right term) occasionally...

196? Sears Clinton 3.5 HP Missing Fuel Line?

I picked up a Sears Clinton 3.5 hp motor for 30 bucks. I hooked it up and tried to start it. Several problems revealed themselves. First of all, there is no spark. I will try a new plug tomorrow. However, it also seems like there is no fuel getting into the cylinder. Upon further inspection of...

    1963 Johnson 5.5 Fuel Filter

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I could not figure out how to replace the fuel filter on a 1963 Johnson 5.5, which I got for free. I looked around and could not find a screw to loosen the filter. How do I take off the old filter?
