    3.0 running hot 200F

I just disassembled the impeller, checked for anything in the exhaust path again (half the flapper was there from the over heat), and reinstalled very meticulously with proper torque specs. The temp reading on the gauge is 190F but 145F at the engine using a meat thermometer. Any thoughts...

    3.0 running hot 200F

Just the impeller and it was still good, show little to no wear compared to the new. The housing looked clean with no scaring. Replaced the impeller in the same direction as the old one. Will try the bucket test before removing the drive to check for debris since I hate the idea of having to...

    3.0 running hot 200F

If I was to clean out the exhaust downstream of the riser since there may be a burnt flapper piece somewhere, what would be the best way to do this?

    3.0 running hot 200F

Thanks for the reply. The old impellor was intact. The drive went on okay and the water was in the guide sleeve, it seemed okay.

Starting a long sitting, 2003 Mercruiser 3.0 alpha one, with a gen 2 sterndrive.

Same thing happened to me, no fuel to the carb. Turned out to be the screen was clogged at the carb end of the fuel line.

Starting a long sitting, 2003 Mercruiser 3.0 alpha one, with a gen 2 sterndrive.

Don't be too surprised if you need to disassemble and clean the carb.... Very diligent description but multiple oil changes may not be necessary. I recently ran an engine that was not run for three years and had to clean out the carb and later replace the riser since it had rusted shut. (also...

    Exhaust Flappers

Yes, install them. It's not fun to rebuild an engine over missing $40 worth of parts.....

    3.0 running hot 200F

I have 2005 Mercruiser 3.0 that's running at 190 - 200 degrees with a 160 degree thermostat which seems high. A couple weeks back it overheated and I replaced the sea water impellor, water tube, water circulation pump, thermostat (160 degree), manifold, and riser. The only thing that needed...

    Valve Adjustment, 2004 3.0

Okay... I meticulously followed the Mercruiser procedure again and the compression went back to 120psi across all cylinders again. Thinking I still didn't get right, I took off the side plate to inspect the lifters and confirmed that they were in the right position when adjusting. Rod just...

    Valve Adjustment, 2004 3.0

This the best explanation on the mechanics of hydrolic lifters so far.... Makes sense how they can get over tightened. Also makes me wonder if my lifters are operating correctly.

    Valve Adjustment, 2004 3.0

I have a 2004 Mercruiser 3.0 and that I rebuilt. Ever since, the engine pings / knocks. When I put the engine back together, I adjusted valves per the service manual. The timing has been adjusted, carb rebuilt, and high octane gas was used to try and work the pinging out and none of these...

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

Yes, the kit came with a new power valve. I did clean in out the actuator and it moved smoothly. It's a hard line between the fuel pump and carb, it would be difficult to measure the pressure without some serious rigging. I cranked it a couple times with fuel line disconnected to sample the...

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

99% certain the firing order is correct, 1-3-4-2.

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

Yes, it's about 120psi on all 4 cylinders. Would tight valves have these symptoms?

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

That did not fix it.... So it was not the carburetor. Still pinging and back firing, when it can actually get to top speed it's still about 25 mph.

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

During rebuilding the carb I found three things that might contribute to the problem. 1. Crud 2. Swollen accelerator pump plunger 3. Float adjustment was off by about 4mm. Testing it out tomorrow, let's see how it goes.....

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

It makes sense and other's thought timing would have fixed it too.... but tested the engine in the water by making slight timing amusements all around the spec, although there was some improvement, it didn't fix the problem. Then over time it still progressively got worse. I replaced the...

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

Anyone want to point me in the direction of a quality mercruiser double barrel carburetor rebuild kit?.... Purchased on off of Amazon and it seems like something that's going to get me stuck on the water. My accelerator pump is very tight and the new one appears to be small.

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

Definitely all the symptoms of running lean.... Will try the jerry can idea. I haven't had a water separator for the five years that I've owned it, thinking I should buy one now though.
