    I've got a new mando alt. on my mercruiser and noticed it won't function unless a certain RPM is achieved(for example 2000rpms). Is anyone familiar with this type of alternator and is it common for a marine alt. to have a cut-in RPM?

    tachometer accuracy

    I'm pretty sure my '97 454 doesn't run 5600 rpms. I suspect the tach is off. I don't recall it ever reading as high. What if anything could happen "overnight" that might cause this? Is there a way to check?
