    How Old Is Your Boat?

Mine is a 1977 MFG with a 1977 70 hp Evinrude. Saw this boat in 1980 at the lake, then many years later, I bought it.

    Got new tires and wheels

Bought me a couple of tires with wheels for my 40 year old boat trailer. Cheap 'made in China', but my ramp is only 5 miles from my house. My old tires were made by Armstrong. Armstrong went out of business in the late 1980's. My old tires had a build date of 130 which means the 13 week of a...

Added a Tell Tale to my Motor

I've been wanting to add a tell tale to my old 1977 70hp Evinrude. With several days of nice warm weather I figured I would do it. I did it using this Forum instructions. It was easy to do but it was hard (mentally) to drill a hole in the top of the motor. Everything went smooth except I had to...

    Storing OMC tanks for winter.

I have two OMC 6 gallon metal gas tanks. I was wondering is it best to store these with gas and oil or without gas and oil in them for the winter. Just curious on what others do :)

    Replaced Thermostat.

Yesterday i replaced the thermostat and gasket on my 1977 Evinrude 70 HP motor. The kit came with a round cork gasket. I couldn't find anything about where this cork gasket goes. I put it in the hole where the thermostat goes and placed the thermostat on top of the cork gasket. I then put the...

    Replaced my Rectifier :)

The end of last summer i bought a factory repair manual and rebuilt my carburetors with a full rebuild kit, even new floats. A few days ago replaced the impeller, the kit even came with a new top housing. Everything I've done is working the way it should :) My Tach seems to be off and noticed...

    What would you do.

I messed up my prop at the end of last summer and bought a new one. The old prop didn't have any numbers except for the diameter of 13.25, i looked at my factory repair manual where it said most motors were shipped out with a pitch of 17. I am now using a Solas Amita this is what i had with the...

    Carbs still flooding after rebuild.

My 1977 70 horsepower boat runs good but the carbs would flood when i pump the bulb 3 or 4 times until firm. To start i would plug in the fuel line to the gas tank without pumping the bulb and turn on the key , then push the key in (choke and prime) until the first hit of the motor. After a...

    Need Your Thoughts

I messed up my old prop. It has no numbers or markings. My boat would do 35.8mph @ 5,500rpm. The factory repair manual said the standard prop from the factory was a 13 1/4 with a 17 pitch so i ordered a new Solas 13 1/4 17 pitch. My boat now does 34.4mph @ 5,000rpm. My boat 'planes' in 4 seconds...

    What gear lube weight?

Took our 15 foot boat with a 1977 70 horsepower Evinrude motor out for the first time today. I 'think' it ran good. I don't have a speedometer but i have a tach. It ran 5400 RPM on smooth water, is this good? I want to change the gear lube, i know it holds 22 oz but i can't find the weight. What...
