Can't hear VHF with the engine on

The radio full up is less volume than I'd get out of my cell phone playing music. I have actually used speaker phone to call people while on plane and heard them better than I can my VHF. I wonder if it is because it is so low or if the speaker is just horrible.

Slip/moored boat what do you do with your trailer?

Older people who don't drive and have a house make for great winter/trailer storage. I have family 5 minutes away in that type of situation and it works perfectly.

Slip/moored boat what do you do with your trailer?

Why would you be removing the outdrive frequently? As for needing it often, I have my boat (21ft center console) in a slip and I use my trailer 2x a year. Buddy with an I/O cuddy does the exact same.

Can't hear VHF with the engine on

What would the draw to a headset be over a speaker?

Can't hear VHF with the engine on

Hmm any suggestions on where you'd mount one on a 21ft center console that has a hard top? I found an ICOM one with a bracket that seems like it could work if I can find a spot

Can't hear VHF with the engine on

I have a 21ft center console boat with a Mercury 225 outboard. I have a Simrad VHF installed below the steering wheel. Anytime the engine is on it is hard to hear any calls on the VHF and when on plane I can't hear a damm thing. Volume is up at the max and a NMEA 2000 system I am installing...

    Storing splash wings on boat?

What might work other than a beach towel that would be somewhat easy to source? I'm in souther Ontario (Canada) so this time of year it is still pretty chilly. Water was ~55F last night in the bays.

    Storing splash wings on boat?

I saw some people online say that they used beach towels and lawn chair bags? If I did one per part maybe that would be fine? UV and heat is my concern ideally I'd put it in the console out of the UV/heat instead of leaving them up. Having to bring them with me to the marina all the time and...

    Storing splash wings on boat?

I have a 21ft center console boat that I had splash wings made for in the fall. They are great however I have noticed half the time I want them I don't have them since they stay at home laying flat on the guest bed. How can I store these on the boat in the head compartment? There is 2 wings...

Hole from foam filling -cap popped

I got it mostly fixed a couple of days ago. Some gelcoat ended up a little soft and a crack in it so I'll likely do another coat over it but the hole is patched up enough until I either have a professional look at it in the fall or it stays that way forever.

Hole from foam filling -cap popped

Foam is dry, I do an inspection of the bilge before going out each time so it had less than a day to sit before I put some tape over it until I found find a solution. I don't feel any moisture. Seems like should be an easy enough fix. Here's hoping goes well 🤞

Hole from foam filling -cap popped

I have this hole in my bilge and have been fighting to even get a quote on fixing it. Wondering what it would take to do it myself. Its about 1/2 inch wide. Some sources online say 5200 will be good enough others say it needs fiberglass. The disk is what I presume to be a cap or something over...

    Replacing my power block

Thanks I checked the wiring diagrams and I am pretty sure it is either a 6 or 8 gauge wire and a 96 inch run. Worse case says I should be able to handle ~50 amps. The fuse block is rated at 100 (both old and new). The fuses I have in it now add up to 27 amps - ignoring actual load - so seems...

    Replacing my power block

I have a Blue Sea Systems ST ATO Fuse block that has 6 spots for fuses/connections. I have maxed it out and am looking at going to a 12 spot one. Phyicially it will fit but I am trying to determine if it will handle the load properly. My boat is a Blackfin 212CC from 2019. This is the block in...

    Batteries for 21ft CC

Very interesting thank you. Feel like I got a good enough battery though need to do a lot more reading on them before the next set or when I install a trolling motor next spring.

    Batteries for 21ft CC

I ended up with the MotoMaster Nautilus. I read on the MCA vs CCA before hand though barely understood much past the basics. In terms of a more robust dual purpose battery, what do you mean? Yeah the old ones were automotive since I guess that dealer must get a good deal or something since...

    Batteries for 21ft CC

No trolling motor, sound is maybe 300W? Only use with the engine running or I switch to a single battery at anchor leaving one for starting only. Starts nearly instant every time 2-3 seconds sounds about right. Only time it won't is early spring or late fall when the weather drops to 10C...

    Batteries for 21ft CC

According to the manual, it is "800 minimum marine cranking amps (MCA) with a minimum reserve capacity of 135 RC25 rating" I think that means the motomaster is fine? Though a lot of people online say 1000 CCA is the lowest to go with.

    Batteries for 21ft CC

I have a 21ft CC with a 2019 Merc 225XL OB and during my pre-spring prep I noticed 1 battery will not hold a charge and the other is weak. They are 5 years old so it's likely time to replace. The current ones are Nationwide part 31T-GS, which has CCA of 1000 and a RC of 185. I have a few...
