    When we repowered our Commander we painted the bilge with grey Bilgekote. It's easy to clean and very tough.

    If you're not feeling excessive motion on the surge coupler after bleeding, I wouldn't worry about the brake lines. They may introduce more of a "soft pedal", but if it feels fine while towing and the brakes engage, I wouldn't replace the lines unless another reason comes up.

    Don't top up thru the dipstick hole. With the drive level, once oil starts flowing from the overflow hole, stop filling and you're good. You only need to be anywhere within the indent on the dipstick.

    The challenge with an insert is getting the a good seal with the O-ring. Oh, and keeping metal debris from entering the drive... I'd just get a new cap.

    The cable housing needs to be in the slot. I would confirm that, then adjust as best you can and see how it shifts. Maybe the cable is stretched. If it doesn't shift well, then I'd replace the cable assembly.

    I would try using a file to take off any protrusions from the groove. Otherwise get a new input shaft.

    You should have sufficient access to the water inlet to replace it if you trim the drive all the way up, as shown in the video below. Otherwise just pull the drive off. You don't need to separate the upper housing to replace it.

    I would leave the hose connected at the transom and move it out of the way for engine install, then connect to the engine once it's installed.

    Hmmm. If it were me I'd confirm the fluid is fresh with Volvo fluid, then change the shift housing. It could end up being a clutch cone issue...

    When filling, I put my ear near the nozzle when I'm near full and can usually hear the tone change when the fuel starts filling up the fill hose. Hard to do if it's noisy as you're filling

    When you operate the shift mechanism by hand, does it shift smoothly in both directions? Is there a clear detent in neutral, or is it vague? If it's vague the shift mechanism spring may be failed or stuck. I once had difficulty shifting out of gear into neutral and replaced the mechanism...

    Great! Maybe cycle the steering wheel back and forth with the engine running to ensure any air in the steering system is purged. I'd keep an eye on the fluid levels. Air should not be getting introduced into a good tight system.
