    Is fuel pump supposed to run entire time engine does?

    I have a mercruiser 4.3l from 1993. It has an electric fuel pump added. My mechanic told me it is supposed to run or make noise like its on the entire time the motor is running then shut off when motor is off. And turn on when you turn the key to prime the engine. Is this the case?

    P2159 is on the side of my prop. Is that 21" pitch and the 59 is referring to what, diameter? I have a searay 180 bowrider v6 18 foot boat with inboard engine. I understand the prop is like a gear and this 21" prop is like a high gear for my boat. I want more power for pickup (waterskiing)...
