1998 15HP 4-Stroke Water in engine oil after impellor change?

Well 4 months later and I've finally got a chance to look into the thermostat and yes it was stuck open. We'll see if it's fixed once spring arrives and we can get out. Thanks for the help people!

On second thought, I get what you're saying about the thermostat. I'll order a new one. Thanks for the tip!

1998 15HP 4-Stroke Water in engine oil after impellor change?

So I replace the impellor in my 1998 15HP 4-Stroke Merc (OG674558) this spring and, in the process of reinstalling the lower unit up into the outboard, the small round coil (spring) that is seated around the lower lip of the crankcase seal, came out with the shaft. Would this be enough to allow...

Adding an axillary fuel tank information resources?

Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is for a resource to know what exactly are the safest ways to add a tank. How to tie it into the fuel system, etc.

Adding an axillary fuel tank information resources?

Here's a shot of the area I was thinking of locating the new tank. The hull is about 3" below the floor. The steps are lockers that need to be replaced this off-season. I was hoping to reconfigure this area and incorporate the tank.

Adding an axillary fuel tank information resources?

Yes, the limited space is an issue. Storing 3 jerry cans in the v-berth is a pain that I really want to eliminate, not to mention the safety issues with transferring fuel from them to the main tank mid trip.

Adding an axillary fuel tank information resources?

My main tank is under the deck, directly in front of my Mercruiser v6 engine. There is a bulkhead forward of the tank which lines up with the back wall of the cabin above. My thought is to put the aux tank below the cabin floor on the other side of the bulkhead, directly in line with the...

Adding an axillary fuel tank information resources?

My 22' cabin cruiser has a 189L (50 u.s. gallon) fuel tank and I need to bring at least another 75L (20 gal) of fuel to feel comfortable on some of my long overnight trips so I'm contemplating adding an additional fuel tank to the boat. Can someone point me in the right direction (online...

4.3 LX water in the oil...

Well she's definitely got a little spring in her step now 😆. Wife and I went out for a few hours today and it's got a little more get up and go and it also starts much better. Win win!

4.3 LX water in the oil...

Well I got her buttoned up, primed the fuel and it started immediately. Initial timing was at 15° BTDC but it ran SO SUPER SMOOTH!!! Sounded like a different engine! Backed it down to 8° BTDC at 700 rpm and let it warm up. I then tweaked the idle A/F screws and set the idle to 700 RPM. She's not...

4.3 LX water in the oil...

I always use 91 octane. Shop said that they were originally designed to use leaded fuel and they could be hammered because of the unleaded. They replaced them with hardened seats. My cruise speed is about 25 mph at 3800 rpm. She'll max out at the recommended rpm of 4600 rpm or thereabouts. So...

4.3 LX water in the oil...

Heads are good, no cracks, exhaust seats are hammered though and will be replaced. I also ordered new exhaust manifolds just to be on the safe side. Old ones were pretty rusty. Should start to put things back together next week.

4.3 LX water in the oil...

Dropped the heads off at the speed shop. They're going to flux them and deck them and do the valves, plus a bunch of other stuff. They'll let me know if there's any issues with them.

4.3 LX water in the oil...

I'm learning as I go with regards to this engine and how to read the gaskets. That said, Cyl#'s 5 & 6 both look to me like there's rust stains on the head gaskets at the "Fire Rings"(?) I also noticed the lip at the back of the intake/block, where you apply sealant, and right around the sensor...
