    Shimming a gimbal bearing?

My old age memory isn't quite sure but, A few years ago I installed this bearing shimmed with a few strips of thin aluminum. (Perma lube type; retainer, race and bearing all in one) I seem to remember that the separate nylon retainer and bearing were not available then. When looking for other...

    Shimming a gimbal bearing?

    It's hard to measure. It's more like 0.06 - 0.08

    Shimming a gimbal bearing?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I may have understated "slightly loose " the housing has maybe 0.08 - 0.12 Gap all around. I thought of JB weld and use old driveshaft to center it while while curing

    Shimming a gimbal bearing?

1969 mc1 Ser # 258xxxx /120 hp Old bearing must have spun in the recess and enlarged the hole. The new bearing is now slightly loose in the gimbal plate hole. Can I use shims to hold the outer race tight ? I see shim sets for sale at Crowley for this year gimbal plate. Are these used for this?

Using hose adaptor on pivot cap

1968 electric shift on 283 ci in 23 ft PennYan. If I use the garden hose on the trunnion cap a lot, will it damage the water pump in the drive? When it's running, does enough water get down to it to keep the blades from burning up?

    Guest battery isolator ?

The diodes confuse me. Will they or the alternator over heat without the second battery? The alternator is a 1 wire I think a newer acr will "sense " no voltage and not charge that output, but I don't think diodes are that smart.

    Guest battery isolator ?

I'm electrically illiterate. Here's my stupid question. Boat is a 68 Penn Yan with 210 hp OMC 70 amp Arco alternator Has a Guest switch 2111 and isolator 2401. I only have 1 battery installed. Will I hurt the isolator or alternator running it? The reason I want to keep it capable of 2...

73 Eska 4.5 wont get WOT

Got it on the lake yesterday to catch a bluegill dinner. Seemed to run better. Still not like I remember. If I sit a little bit more to the middle she almost gets on plane. Next time out I'll set the trim in a little bit. More than likely it's my older extra weight than when I was a younger man.

    Clinton J9-1000 water tube issue

Started it up yesterday. Nice spray of water now! I have a 55 gallon plastic farm barrel. Should I leave the propeller on or take it off? For short starts, I use a tall bucket so the water is above the pump. I remove the prop so as not to blow all the water out or chew the bucket up. Also a...

    Clinton J9-1000 water tube issue

The O-ring definitely had something to do with it. It was swollen and made it very hard to push the tube in. Replaced with new one. Straightened tube and tightened rivets. Wow! That tube sure bends easy! I can understand how it got whacked up. Had to make new gaskets for under the...

    Clinton J9-1000 water tube issue

The crankshaft seal, that is. It runs okay in a barrel, not that it means too much. I've had it many years, but have never really used it. I think PO used too much oil by the looks of the build up. I use 32:1

    Clinton J9-1000 water tube issue

Decided to pull the power head. The tube appears bent slightly and the end is mucked up some. The driveshaft looks to have rubbed on it at some time. I'm going to try to file the end to good surface then rebend the tube so it's just inside the pump about the 3/4 in. Also I'll try to tighten...

    Clinton J9-1000 water tube issue

1968 J9-1000 ser # 00798 I'm not getting good water spray. I changed the impeller. The old one was not disintegrated just permanently bent blades. Installed new one. When putting lower on, the water tube seemed very wiggly and doesn't seem to go into the pump body very far. Question: can I...

73 Eska 4.5 wont get WOT

The carb didn't seem to bad, the idle jet and the low air mix needle were a bit whacked. I think the timing is the bigger issue. I must have measured btdc and atdc wrong last time. The impeller was also disintegrated. When the new one gets here I'll try it out and let you know if it's running...

    Sea foam for outboards?

Tried the Marvel ring soak on a 99' Saturn 4 banger. The stuff was impossible to get back out and blew the ceramics on all 4 plugs. Lucky to have not bent a rod or blown head gasket. Hydrolock. My favorite decarboning cylinder cleaner is a slow spray of water into a revving intake. 4 stroke...
