    Help with alarm and alternator

Checked all the leads for continuity to ground and the only one showing ground is the wire to the water temp sensor. I don’t see anywhere that it got pinched or damaged in any way. What’s my next step to finding the problem?

    Help with alarm and alternator

My motor is a GL-J? How do you tell that? I assumed it was GL-A because of the A in the serial number...

    Help with alarm and alternator

So do you think the alternator is possibly bad? Or is there another possible problem?

    Help with alarm and alternator

Here’s a pic. White arrow is the brown wire I was talking about. It’s actually brown with black stripe. Maybe the tan/black you’re talking about?? Purple arrow is the green and purple wires coming from the alternator. Not seeing any wires pinched anywhere.

    Help with alarm and alternator

I have a 2010 Volvo penta 4.3GL serial# A104925. product# 3869391. After having the intake manifold off and doing some work, put it all back together and the alarm is going off nonstop. Not a beep but continuous alarm while running. I pulled off the leads to the exhaust temp sensors, the oil...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

Just an update. I ground out the cracks and jb welded them. Started it up and ran it awhile on the hose. No issues. Had it out on the water 3 times since and it is running great. Still no water in the oil. Hopefully it lasts thru the summer and maybe will get a new engine ordered to replace it...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

Thanks for the lead. Just checked and they get about $1k more and they’re also over a month out. Going to try the jb weld route only because it ran in this condition before winter. I’m pretty positive it was cracked when I bought it because the oil was milky right out of storage without ever...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

I found a crate long block for about $2k after core but they’re saying 6-8 weeks out so I’m going to jb weld the crack and put it back together and see if it’ll last until the new one gets here. Hopefully it doesn’t throw a rod bolt thru the hull and sink the boat if/when it blows lol.

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

Well I guess there’s my answer... am I best to just replace the whole engine and keep my top end if the heads and manifolds aren’t cracked? Anyone know the best place to find a replacement block or whole engine? What’s my best play here?

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

Hard for me to tell anything by the oil since I put 20+ ounces of alcohol in the cylinders to free it up.

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

There’s zero chance that water leaked into the engine from outside. I did poke the drain holes and make sure all the water was out. Except for intake drain which I didn’t know had a drain. Pulled the hoses off the water pump at the bottom as well. I put 3 gallons of antifreeze in it. Just kept...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

Here’s the manifold gasket. The middle cylinder is the one that had water in it. Looks darker around the bottom half than the other two do. Also, I’m wondering if the water/antifreeze under the valve covers isn’t from me cranking the engine after putting rubbing alcohol in there. I had the plugs...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

There’s water droplets on the lifters and there’s water sitting where the red arrows are pointing. It’s probably antifreeze and not water but it’s definitely not oil.

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

So I dug into this a little bit today and I remember exactly what I did to winterize. I pulled the hoses and also pulled the exhaust manifold drains as well as the block drains. Then I filled the cooling system with antifreeze. I did not know there was an intake drain so that never got pulled. I...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

The only thing I did to winterize it was pull the hoses to drain all the water and then reconnected the hoses and put antifreeze thru it. I didn’t drain anything else. I’m now learning there are several things that need to be drained that I had no idea of.

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

I guess I may not have winterized properly. Got boat out of storage and motor was locked up. Pulled the plugs and there was brown liquid coming out of 2 cylinders. (See pic) Obviously water got in there somehow. I poured alcohol in all 6 cylinders and let it sit overnight. In the morning it was...
