    WMK-22 question 76 Merc 1500

Chris, A little bit deeper in that post the op mentioned a bb in the idle tube itself. “I removed the idle adjustment screw and spring. When I did that, a small, opaque bb rolled out as well. I don't see this on any part diagram for any of the carbs I've looked at (I've not been able to find...

    WMK-22 question 76 Merc 1500

Found an old thread where the OP is talking about the same type of ball in the idle tube…? https://forums.iboats.com/threads/back-drag-carb-vent-jets.677948/

    WMK-22 question 76 Merc 1500

Possibly. Another thing I was going to mention is that someone had placed a #3 carb at the top where #1 would normally be. (WMK-22-1, WMK-22-2, WMK-22-3)… so now I have #3 carb on top, #2 in middle, and another #3 on the bottom. Are there internal differences between the carbs? Also of note I...

    WMK-22 question 76 Merc 1500

Yes they are the backdrag carbs. When I removed the idle screw the smaller bead fell out with it. Looks maybe about half the size of the BB you would use to plug the back drag tubes. It seems it’s made to sit on top of the restrictor tube ?

    WMK-22 question 76 Merc 1500

I’m in the process of rebuilding the wmk22 carbs on my ‘76 150 hp in-line and during disassembly, noticed each carb had a small plastic looking ball or BB sitting on top of each idle tube. I don’t see this BB in the diagram in the service manual. Anyone have any idea what purpose these serve and...

    Mercury red band 1150

Yes I just didn’t know if I’d be able to take the distributor and switch box from the red band that I was going to buy for parts or fix up (70 I think) and use on my 77 or vice versa…I know there were some changes to the blocks after 71 or 72?

    Mercury red band 1150

Can someone tell me if any of the ignition components from a red band inline 1150 will interchange with the later year blue band 1977?

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

Fazt, I got two motors being discussed here. The motor with the questionable cylinder was just a parts motor I picked up and was thinking about using temporarily while I replaced gaskets on the one with water intrusion. That motor still shows good compression across the board.

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

Chris thanks for the heads up. I have not started disassembly yet as I didn’t know exactly where to start. Motor had begun acting “strange” all of the sudden the last few trips out. Sometimes it would take off fine…other times it would take several minutes trying to build up rpm and get on...

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

I didn’t pay any attention when I had the cover off but it looks to be missing in the attached picture. Just curious but is that notch on the front facing edge of the piston directly behind the cylinder wall suppose to be there? I just assumed it was a broken piece since the piston in the cyl...

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

I did pop the transfer port cover off. Here are some pics of #3… Piston looked to be chipped in some places and rings definitely have some gouges…aluminum flakes accumulated in one of the pockets of the port cover… Overheat?

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

Thanks Chris that was the confirmation I needed. My plan was to run this motor temporarily on my fishing rig while I have my main ‘77 1150 tore down replacing the exhaust gaskets. Just didn’t want to go through all the trouble of swapping motors if the low cyl pressure was going to cause...

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

I picked up a ‘75 merc 1150 for the ignition parts and decided to test the compression out of curiosity. Cyl #3 is 90 psi…all others are around 140. Is the block worth messing with? I would assume there is a significant issue with #3. Thanks

    ‘77 Mercury 1150 Compression

Was looking for help on the correct way to test compression on these old inlines. ( 77 Merc 1150) Also does anyone have a specific gage and adapter they recommend? Thanks

‘79 Mercury 115 Fuel Inlet Cover

I am having an issue finding this part # (35-91078A 1) The original has several stress cracks and leaks fuel when primed. Has anyone ran across this same issue and maybe found a work around? Are there modern day mechanical fuel pumps that would work on these old inlines? Thank you all for...
