    Alldodge what is the reason for shunting the engine? I can't seem to fully grasp the concept. From research when using the shunt tool this takes the timing to 0' however on removing the tool this puts it back to what it was? So what happens here plug the tool in then advance the timing to 8' on...

    The part I'm not following is how would the shunt tool reset the points to 0" timing? As this is all mechanical how's that possible?

    Never timed an engine like this, only a car engine from replacing a cambelt but that was easy due to an ECU and fuel injection. Not too sure where to start.

    If I were to repair this pump, what's everyone's thoughts on the wear and tear as to the area the impeller sits, should it do any damage spinning away?

    Always, this is just standard winterization/yearly maintenance. I'm going down the route of preventive maintenance for a 20 year old boat so that I'm not stranded somewhere next season.

    fair points, it's a little more expensive in the UK than 200 bucks unfortunately - it's £430. I suppose I could purchase from china for around £100 Repair kit is circa £35 - I was going to use a socket to tap the bearing back in.
