    4.3 belt alignment issues

Yeah, but unfortunately the end of the crank pulley had some burrs that was causing me to get different readings. I'm gonna clean everything up and try again.

    4.3 belt alignment issues

I dug into this last night. All of the brackets appear to be the correct part numbers. I bent the P/S bracket backwards a little and it seemed to help. Also pulled off the crank, alternator, and water pump pulleys to have them blasted and powder coated. There was quite a bit of crud built up in...

    4.3 belt alignment issues

Yeah I have pressed the pulley on completely flush and it is still too far forward. I'm going to dig into it tonight and see if something is bent, or missing spacers, or what.

    4.3 belt alignment issues

MichaelBC, by proud I meant the shaft would stick out from the face of the pulley. Using your method, having the shaft proud would not be possible as the washer would contact the face of the pulley hub and the face of the shaft at the same time, which would prevent the pulley from going on...

    4.3 belt alignment issues

Is it a good idea to have the shaft proud of the pulley? I'm not necessarily against it, just asking.

    4.3 belt alignment issues

I do intend to get a straight edge on it but I'm pretty sure it's not parallel just by looking at it. The front of that pulley's snout is flush with the end of the shaft. Using the proper tool to press that pulley on, the pulley is as far as it will go. I probably pushed it on 1/2" before I took...

    4.3 belt alignment issues

I kind of thought that too. That's why I'm wondering if the brackets are incorrect.

    4.3 belt alignment issues

Previous reapir failures strike again with my boat. I don't have a serial number as someone swapped in a Jasper reman engine into my Glastron that originally had a Volvo drive. I noticed when I was running wires for my stereo that my engine was covered in rubber dust. I found the belt shredded...

Alpha 1 gen 2 steering gets hard at full left

Update to hopefully help someone else: I ordered a replacement cable. It arrived today and I installed it. The steering continued to lock up on full left. I disconnected everything and couldn't find binding anywhere. Until I noticed the heads of my exhaust coupler hose clamps were right against...

Alpha 1 gen 2 steering gets hard at full left

Alright, I finally got a chance to get back in the boat and check this out. I set the flats perfectly vertical and tried again. The first time I went full left, it seemed okay. Once I went full right and then back to full left, it bound again. I went to look at the flats and found the tube had...

Alpha 1 gen 2 steering gets hard at full left

Bondo, Thanks for your reply. I do have those flats as I used them to reinstall the cable after I removed it for inspection. I know they are roughly vertical, as that is the only way I could get a wrench on then but I'm not sure exactly how vertical they are. I will check that and report back...

Alpha 1 gen 2 steering gets hard at full left

I have a 1997 Glastron GS186. I purchased it last July only to find out it is a bit of a Franken-boat. I've had to fix numerous issues that th previous owner either didn't do correctly, or not at all. The boat originally had a Volvo 4.3 I/O but currently has a Jasper reman Mercruiser 4.3(with no...
