    '87 XR2 150 Uneven Running

This is a carebureted 2.0L 150. When I put it away at the end of the season last year it was running perfectly. I winterized it (drained the carbs, fogged the cyls., put stabilizer in the gas before the last time I ran it), but when I pulled it out to run it this season I find it misses at idle...

    Mercury Fury

Anybody had any experience with these things yet? I want my 150XR2 powered 17' pad-v bottom boat to go as fast as possible w/o going to a low water pick-up. See pic attached. TG

CEE BEE Avenger Rebuild: Still Goin' Strong!

Hi All, It's been awhile since I posted here. I thought I'd repost a link to the resto I did on the boat I presently own over the Winter/Spring of '06-'07. I've made a couple changes to the rig since I last posted. I put a jack plate on (total set-back about 7"), SeaStar Pro hydraulic...

    Hydraulic vs. Dual Cable

I have a 17' go-fast boat with an Merc. XR2 150 capable of 70 mph. Presently it has single cable steering. Chine walk and torque steer are problems. I have access to a Teleflex Seastar hydraulic steering system. I'm also considering a standard dual cable steering system (NOT nfb). What...

    Mercury Question: 1987 XR2 150

I just acquired one of these engines. The serial number is B143309, which according to my research is indeed a 1987. If anyone out there has an owners manual, or sales brochure from that year (I'd REALLY like one of those), let me know. I'd like to buy it from you. My understanding of these...

    Merc. XRI 150 electronic prob.

My brother's '95 Merc has a strange electronic problem. It wouldn't run, start, the electronics are doing strange things like you turn on the ign. and the tach goes all the way to the end, then back down, the overheat beeper goes off one time the ign. is turned on, shut it off turn it back on...

'87 Merc 115 shift linkage: Stumped

Hi. I recently pulled my powerhead to fix something on it. I'm trying to reconnect the shift linkage to the shift cable, and I'm stumped. I can't figure out how it goes back together. The shop manual does not show how these pieces fit together (piece of junk!). Besides the permanent shift...

HEY, all you Merc. experts out there...

Is there such a thing as a mid-eighties Mercury XR2 200 hp? I've always thought that these XR2's are only 150's. Thanks! TG

    Merc. Tach

I have a 1987 115 T.O.P. My tach is not a Mercury tach, I believe it is a Marpac or Teleflex. Anyway, I think the tach is not acurately measuring rpm. Is there a way to test it? Also, do one of these In-line 6's (the late model ones) have a rev limiter? Thanks! TG

'87 115 lower unit shift shaft seal?

Hi. I got into my lower unit with the intent of servicing my water pump, to discover that it appears the seal around my shift shaft was leaking oil. I got the whole new shift shaft bushing with seal and o-ring. When I went to take the old bushing out (using the correct factory tool), the...

    Shhhhh!

How can I make my '87 Merc 115 quieter at idle? Thanks. TG

Cee Bee Avenger Project: SOME FINAL THOUGHTS

Happy Independence Day you all! Well, I'm sitting here listening to what sounds like my neighborhood being shelled, and thinking how completely satisfied I am with my finished Avenger project. So far the boat is everything I hoped it would be; it is fast (55 mph + or - a mile an hour or two w/...

'87 Tower of Power 115 Cyl. Cover LEAK!

This engine has had this leak before. I had it repaired and it lasted a season. Just took my boat on it's maiden voyage and the leak now is so bad water is pouring out of the bottom cowl. It is leaking around the #2 plug hole. If it had been repaired before, and I go in there and replace the...

Avenger Project: WHAT A GREAT FATHER'S DAY!!

Today was my boat project's maiden voyage. I got enough done to launch and take her for a test spin. It still needs trim, but I was able to run it today. Take a look at the pics. However, things did not go off without a hitch: I have a mechanical problem that I'll take up in the Mercury...

    Avenger Project: REMOUNTING OUTBOARD?

Next weekend I'm hoping to be hanging my '87 Merc. 115 on the back of my newly restored boat. How do you measure to find true center on the transom? Finding port to starboard center seems easy, but how do you make sure the motor is mounted straight up and down, not leaning - even slightly - to...

    complete rewire

I'm restoring a '77 Cee Bee Avenger. I have to completely rewire the thing. Electronics is NOT my strong suit. I have no idea really how to procede. I know a few things, but not many. I want all my hot wiring to go to a fuse block under my dash in case of dead short. Also, I want to have...

    Avenger Project: CHANGE OF PLANS

I've decided not to paint over the red metal flake with Brightside yellow. The work involved with all the masking off, etc., etc., is just too much. I want to get this thing on the water. Also, I just got done going over the red metal flake with Meguier's Medium Cut Cleaner followed by 3M...

    Avenger Project: INTERLUX BRIGHTSIDE Q'S?

Hi! I've added new pics to Photobucket. ALL the fiberglassing is finally DONE! The gelcoater did and AWESOME job! I LOVE the look and feel of the floor and seat frames. Check it out: http://s110.photobucket.com/albums/n103/tadpoleig/ I have questions about Interlux Brightside. I'm going...

    Avenger Project: NEARING THE END

    Avenger Project: SEATS INSTALLED!

I rebuilt the seats, and reupholstered them. The only things I had to purchased were a heavy-duty staple gun, stainless steel staples, foam padding to make lumbar supports, heavy duty spray on glue, stainless screws, and Kilz oil primer to seal the seats from water intrusion. Let me know what...
