Removing lower unit 1960 Scott 40hp

Yes, i have a parts diagram, and i have the repair manual- and that's where things go awry- the diagram shows the third nut in front of the bevel gear, yet on my unit, there is no such nut... i don't know if you can see in the photos but it's just not there. I cannot remove the shift mechanism...

Removing lower unit 1960 Scott 40hp

So I am at a loss... Trying to remove the lower unit, the part that houses the gears in my 1960 Scott 40hp outboard. The repair manual is clear that there's 3 nuts holding the lower unit bolts, but I looked and looked everywhere and I found only 2... The location of the third is just not there...

i am trying to find a replacement 'standoff' for the teleflex controls similar to the pic below- it is a 10-32 threaded brass hex-shaped standoff about 1" in length that threads into the pivot... can't seem to find one anywhere... ideas?

Replacement starter coils '58 flying scott 60

well i will leave it covered until i finish up my 1960 Scott 40HP restoration...then see if how i feel about it. I was reading that the 1958 had an additional remote electric fuel pump but i think the one on this motor was replaced as there is a box of spare parts that came with it and an old...

    Save or part out?

thats my biggest concern... theres a lot that will need to be reworked or replaced. The motor is missing the locking arms for the cowl, everything else could probably be sourced...i also suspect the motor had some saltwater exposure due to the level of corrosion. I don't know where i could find...

    Save or part out?

I just picked up a 1958/59 (?) Flying Scott 60hp motor... needs some work, although it appears from the spare parts that came with it that someone most likely replaced the impellers. Is it worth trying to restore or better to part out? i will try to post some pictures soon
