    Critters in My Boat

Thanks for all the ideas! Some I've tried, some are questionable, like others stated. I've used mothballs to get coons out of my fireplace before I put a cap on it. Yet whatever is doing the damage tolerates them. My cuz used to swear by dryer sheets until one winter his Z28 got all messed up...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Done with the ignition. Got really good spark. As long as the pump does what it should she should start.

    Critters in My Boat

So a couple weeks ago, was wanting to get my Crestliner ready for the season. Threw back the cover and find the inside is damaged again. Seat munched on. Foam from the bilge all over the place. New bilge pump is now UNinstalled. Crap. Second year in a row. Funny, nothing messes with my tinnies...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thanks for the tip and I'm sure you're right. I've seen that before. Pretty sure no arrow on this one. Think it's actually hongkongphooey brand. Same as last one I bought which worked fine. Sure hope it's on right. Guess I'll know if no gas comes out.

Johnny Rude Starter Housing - E or JE?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. OMC is clear as mud on this point. Even the factory manual doesn't mention the marks.

Johnny Rude Starter Housing - E or JE?

Interesting. Thanks for posting. So looks like my rope may already be too short. The mystery remains though, why JE? I'm guessing E is for Evinrude, but why JE and not J? My main issue is when I start to pull, it grabs, then slips for about one rotation. Then it grabs again and is fine. Does my...

Fuel pump installed. Now on to the ignition system.

Johnny Rude Starter Housing - E or JE?

Still working on my '59 Evi 10 HP. Starter is a little wonky, but works. From what I've read the marks on the bottom should be aligned with an arrow. There are two sets of marks though and what appears to be a range. Most seem to ignore these, but for it to work right I'm thinking the marks...

Got it. Thanks. I appreciate the help.

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Making some progress. Got the pump mounting plate done. Glad I reread all you guys' tips again. I was getting read to tap it for stove bolts, now I'll use nuts on the back as advised. Heat won't melt the nylon insert will it?

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

You guys rock! Many thanks. Feeling confident now that I can make this thing work. Without sinking a ton of money into a motor that prob has little value. I was wondering about the strange shape of the bypass covers. Makes sense now. One more question, what exactly is being bypassed?

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Racer: Thanks for your learned input. Don't you have to be a member though to post on aomci? I was also thinking of hitting up the local marina, but the old boy who owns it probably hasn't opened it yet. There is a 2nd marina, but they roll their eyes and act like I'm just being a PITA when I...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thanks, got it. I was thinking along the lines of making an alum plate, tapping for a hose barb and hooking THAT up to a fuel pump that would accept a hose. Doesn't somebody make a fuel pump that doesn't have to be mounted to the motor to work? I know the best solution is the newer bypass cover...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Concerning the fuel pump conversion, would this work? Seems like it would be simpler than trying to make the standard OMC pump work maybe since I can just hook the pulse line up to it...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

That's an interesting idea, but this one is a low budget project. I'm just getting it going for fun. Thinking of throwing two cheap coils in it at putting the fuel pump on it, set what I can set, and go from there.

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Every small motor I lay my hands on seems pretty much unused, so I agree that at least in cold climates, a lot of these motors don't see a lot of use. So checked the compression, 70 per side seems pretty good to me. Anybody want to weigh in on whether 3/16" plate thickness is adequate for...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thanks for clearing that up for me Racer. Looks like I'm going to make my own cover. I found a nifty piece of 2x2x 3/16" alum tubing. Would that be thick enough to tap? Or maybe I can leave an ear on it to mount the pump to. Here's pics of coils as requested. They look fine, right? :-P

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thank you gentlemen. Glad to hear I have options. One thing I'm not clear on though is I've seen some people say that there are check balls that need to be removed? From the "intake" if I'm not mistaken. Looks like you take the carb off and keep digging. I'll send some more pics once I get into...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

So I just picked up a pretty sweet little motor. Seems to be reasonably well cared for. So much so that I thought is was a lot newer than it is. Turns out it's a 1959! I still intend to get it going, but I have a dilemma. This thing needs a special tank. Pressurized right? Never messed with one...

    Timing Tips?

Many thanks for all the help. The timing was definitely worth the small amount of time it took. She's idling as smooth as any I've ever had.
