    Hesitation on 351W

My entire fuel system is new, including tank to carb without backflow (not needed with electric). When I am next on the water I am going to see how it does from idle to WOT out of the hole (I rarely do this-I am either at speed and go WOT or pulling a skier up and that is nowhere near WOT) I...

    Hesitation on 351W

Thanks @Scott06. That helps to know that. I have been reading up and pretty much across the board I see that the 600 CFM is what is needed for marine applications; either Edelbrock or Holley.

    Hesitation on 351W

Pretty sure it is not ignition, it is not a misfire since that would be more of a stumble. I have not looked at the plugs but can pull one to see. What I have is like not enough fuel so I like the suggestion to look at the secondary jets. Never heard of step up rods so will read up. Thanks

    Hesitation on 351W

Well now you have me searching back through orders, I thought it was 1406 but I am sure it is a marine carb because @Bondo said what to get...

    888/233 Out Drives

    Is $200 reasonable for this?

    888/233 Out Drives

OK so if I do replace the lower case I will still have the 1.50....good. Thanks, pitch is clearly on the side on my other boat so did not look under nut. It is a Michigan Wheel 14.5x17.

    888/233 Out Drives

I don't know the pitch and can't find it marked on the prop. Tach and all wiring is new so I trust it to be pretty close. Where is the ratio set in the drive? at the top bevel gears or the lower? My lower unit is in rough shape and I have a line on a replacement but the sell know nothing about it.

    888/233 Out Drives

Right, me too but then don't want to blow things up. somewhere on here I read 4200 should be max for the 351W.

    888/233 Out Drives

Boat is a 1976 American Boat Company Eagle. HIN says it was delivered with a 351W-233 Mercruiser. At 47 years old the motor and drive have for sure been removed and/or changed. It now has an aftermarket Edlebrock intake manifold that is stamped Performer 351W, I have installed a new Edlebrock...

    Firing order HELP

SHE RUNS! My mistake was assuming the mark on the old cap in pic was #1. It was 180 out. THANKS! for your help!

    Firing order HELP

All right! Thanks for the extra eyes. I am going to go set the motor to TDC based on the crank pulley and pointer, check that the distributor to pointing to #1 and then order the wires to 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 again and see if she'll start.

    Firing order HELP

Okay but in the pic of my boat (yellow wires) #1 is marked with the white grease pencil. Next wire is #3 that is on the same bank as #1 but you can see the wires go to opposite banks. Maybe that is my whole issue...that mark is 180 off. I just assumed it was the #1 mark since even notes in...

    Firing order HELP

I have confirmed TDC. I marked #1 wire before disassembly. Looking at the picture 1st and 2nd wires are clearly are not on the same bank but 1-3 are.

    Firing order HELP

Yep! That was to original wiring that does not even come close to starting. Also that order does not match the picture I took of my engine. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 would mean 1 goes left, 3 goes left, 7 goes right but as can be seen in the pic it is L-R-R.... I know and understand trying to sort this...

    Firing order HELP

Here is a picture I found of a 77 American with 351W. Looks fairly original. Although I can't for sure know which is #1 I marked it based on the routing on my boat of 1L-2R-3R-4L-5R-6L-7L-8R

    Firing order HELP

Some more of what I have looked at: #1 first wire is marked and goes to left bank based on picture orientation Second wire goes to right bank 3rd goes to right 4th left 5th right 6th left 7th left 8th right With 1-4 on left and 5-8 on right not one of these orders will match up.
