    I have spent over a year trying to fix an intermittent flooding problem, and had multiple suggestions to convert. From my early testing, I'm happy with the conversion, except this issue. Cost was $1200, and very easy as a DIY.

    The oil is not milky, nor can I smell fuel, but it is now over full. I'm guessing fuel. How does that happen? I'm going to change the oil, and see if the smoking goes away.

    I have a Mercruiser Model 5.0L (2-BBL) 1998-95 GM 5.0L - 305ci - 8cyl, Engine S/N OL045552. I recently upgraded to Fuel Injection, and trying to work out the bugs. My Vent Hose - Valve Cover Fitting To Flame Arrestor is putting out excessive smoke. What can cause this?

    Based on a mechanics recommendation, I worked to new TB until i got the RPMs down to 620. At that engine speed, the shifter works just fine. Evidently that is key to making the engine shift properly.

    No work was done near the shift cables. I have disconnected the throttle cable and it will not come back any further. Also, the Idle screw is not even touching the Throttle Body lever.     For my 1998 Mercruiser 5.0L I need to check the timing. Per my service manual (attached) there should be a reference to TDC. Where is this located on the engine (engine photos attached)? I guessing it should be close to the Harmonic Balancer, but I cannot find it.

    Thanks for the replys. I need to start the engine to drive to the ramp and onto trailer. If I remove plugs and starter, can I tap on the ring gear and rotate enough to replace starter and get started? Do I need to loosen belts?

    Thanks for your comments! I am thinking that if I have to pull the engine to replace the ring gear, and the motor is 25 years old, I don't want to face a valve job or broken rod downstream. Put a few thousand in now, and be good to go.

    I don't think the flywheel will turn?? Too much engine compression, or am I wrong. Also, the engine is 25 years old, and also having Carb issues. I am thinking of replacing it. Can I upgrade to a 5.7L? RapidO Marine is out of stock on small blocks, are there any other used engine vendors?

    Removed the starter, and it seemed to run just fine. I felt the ring gear, and thought I detected 1 broken tooth. Is this the part I need? 222-8M0047213
