    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Ok, I'll make sure I drain the liquid from the bottom of the manifolds to make sure. But I have a more basic (maybe stupid) question: Does the coolant come into the manifolds from bottom and goes up to the risers? Or does it come into the riser hoses (that I provided the picture above) and go...

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

I am not really worried about the mixture, I just buy the -50F AF without mixing water. That easily covers the cold in this area. What I am worried is if the AF has reached everywhere in the engine so that no water left that could be risky.

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

It is Mercruiser 5.0 MPI. Attached is the larger picture. The two riser hoses merge into a T-fitting under the thermostat, which goes downward, hard to follow where. The T-fitting does not connect the thermostat. My question is, if I fill the risers with AF inside thru the yellow inlet, with a...

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Sorry, I meant the riser hoses when I said manifold hoses. The manifold hoses are below the manifolds, so I cannot fill AF there. So the question becomes, if I fill in AF (from funnel, by gravity) in that yellow entry of the riser, will that AF fill the manifold as well, so that it is safe?

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

No no, just the opposite. The two quick connects hoses go to the single drain at the front. So single drain empties all the water, that's what I did. I am worried about the manifolds, risers and elbows. When I do the quick drain, I believe those don't get drained. How can I drain those?

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Ok, I only know how to fill using thermostat housing. How do I fill the manifolds with AF? Remove the manifold hoses and pour AF in?

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Each component meaning the left and right plugs on the engine? Yes I remove them and see AF coming both sides The reason I am running thru muffs is to make sure AF goes everywhere in the engine.

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Just winterized my engine today 5.0 Mercruiser. Emptied all the fresh water in the engine thru the single point system. Removed the thermostat. Then placed a big jug of antifreeze on swim platform at stern and hosed it to the muffs. Opened the jug faucet and AF starting to leak down on the...

    Thermostat too dirty

Thank you, after some struggling (install-deinstalled the housing several times), it seems working now on the muffs. I put three layers of gasket to make the plastic sleeve level as the thermostat hole (on the engine block) First I put the direction of the thermostat horizontal (unlike the...

    Thermostat too dirty

Can somebody help me out there please? Is it ok if I place the thermostat like this?

    Thermostat too dirty

Allright, thanks folks. I cleaned it, and tried to re-install the thermostat back to its hole. But a very strange problem, that beats me out. The white plastic sleeve protrudes out of the metal block, see picture 1 and 2. Aren't they supposed to be completely flat with the metal block? Even I...

    Thermostat too dirty

Hello. I removed the thermostat last fall during winterization, and now I wanted to install the new one, but the hole inside it look extremely dirty. Looks like grease and mud, not exactly sure. I didn't notice it previously, because it was full of water (or antifreeze) previously. Attached are...

    Single point drain

I did it in several stages. Drained the engine by single point quick drain. Then removed the thermostat and filled engine with 3 gallons of AF. Than ran another 2 gallons (possibly half of it leaked) thru the muffs from AF bucket until I saw it on the exhaust. What would be the possible risks...

    Single point drain

I circulated the antifreeze thru the engine, watched the pink coming from the exhaust, so the engine is all ready for the winter now. But the thing is, I forgot to fog the engine. Should try I run the engine for a short period of time, like less than a minute, while feeding antifreeze thru the...

    Waste tank in 240CS

Ok, after some experimenting, I figured it out: The holding tank in the picture above is the only one (waste tank). I removed it and cleaned it completely. There is a freshwater tank that provides the water to all the faucets, cold or hot. I put pink AF in it and watched the pink going thru...

    Waste tank in 240CS

The boat is on a trailer now. You mean there may not be a second tank other than the one seen on the picture? In that case I may remove the metal clips and pour some water on the holes outside of the hull, and try to see if it is showing up in the inside tank.

    Waste tank in 240CS

I thought the small tank under the potty in the picture is called "holding tank". I think there is another tank called "waste tank", the main sewage tank, somewhere in the boat, because this is just a portable toilet. The fresh water goes into the fresh water tank thru the hull plug. Since I...

    Waste tank in 240CS

Hi, winterizing my boat first time because all the shops are too busy. I hardly ever used the potty (Sealand brand portable toilet) in the cabin this summer, but I am sure there is sufficient water there to create freezing risk. Attached is the picture of the holding tank under the potty. There...

    Single point drain

Just to be on the safe side for the transom area, I plan to feed more antifreeze from the muffs on the sterndrive (Maybe some water left in exhaust manifolds, in the drive etc..). But I am worried that it may take too much time for the pink to appear on the exhaust (Because it took only 3...

    Single point drain

Yes NH.. Just moved here last winter, brought the boat in summer, so a bit stressed. Last winter the lakes all around here completely frozen for weeks, it was quite brutal. In summertime I boated both at lakes and also on the ocean. Always keep it on the trailer. I didn't know it can be drained...
