    Winterizing question

We have a Yamaha 150 4 stroke. When winterizing, is it best to have a full tank of gas or a near empty tank of gas? If it's the latter, what's a good way to get tank almost empty without running out of gas while out in the water? We're trying to reduce the "ethanol problem". Thanks

    Boat gas tank vents

We have a 21' walk-around with a Yamaha 150 4 stroke. We may have a block vent, so we're told (from another post). My problem is that I don't know where the vent begins and ends; and, if I do locate it, how do I go about unclogging it? I sure could use some guidance on this issue. Feedback...

    Can't maintain power

We have a 21' walkaround with a Yamaha 150 4-stroke. After 3 or 4 minutes running it on the water it loses power and we can't get it back up to full speed when at full throttle. We had it looked at twice by a mechanic and he could find no problem. He did clean some filters, but that didn't...

    Embarrassed to ask this question

Three years ago we had problems with out Yamaha 150 4 stroke that was diagnosed at the time as a fuel problem due to using ethanol gas. The mechanic recommended and installed a water separator that was supposed to eliminate this problem. The same/similar problem occurred this past weekend. We...

    Need oil change recomendations

I have a Yamaha F150 4 stroke on my boat. My boat is kept on a lift. To change oil I always drained it while standing in a Jon boat (not too stable that way). I'd like to switch to pumping out the old oil via the oil gauge pipe. I'm looking for some recommendations on a good, reasonably...

    Digital gauges question

I have a Yamaha 150 4 stroke. All of the gauges on the dashboard don't light up. Are there replaceable "bulbs" in there? Thanks

Any need to spray under the hood (cowling)?

I'm getting ready to winterize myself for the first time (Yamaha F150 4 stroke). My question is this, is there any need to use something like a silicone spray on any parts under the cowling? Thanks

    Choosing the correct gear oil

I have a Yamaha F150 4 stroke and I want to change the lower unit gear oil. My manual says to use SAE90 hypoid gear oil. I bought a quart of Yamaha Shaft Drive Gear Oil (SAE80W90 API Service GL-4, GL5). Is this the correct oil? It doesn't say 'hypoid' on the container. Thanks, Rocky

Spot light won't work with 12 volt outlet

On my boat's dash there's a 12 volt outlet. When I plug in either of my search lights, neither works. I've tested both lights in my car and they both work, yet they won't work on the boat. I tested the outlet with a tester and it shows that the outlet has power. Any thoughts? Thanks, Rocky

    Yamaha F150 4 Stroke gauges/switches question

I have a 2005 21' Caravelle Walk-around with the Yamaha outboard. The dashboard 12 volt receptacle isn't working. I've never tried using it until now. Does this receptacle always have power (assuming batteries are on), or does it need to be switched on and off (there's an accessory rocker...

    Boat lift remote control

I'm having a Magnum 10,000 lb boat lift installed. I'm considering adding their remote control option. Does any forum member wish to comment on the advantages/disadvantages? Anybody have a remote on their lift? Thanks, Rocky

    Yamaha & Freezing Weather

In our old I/O stern drive boat we had to make sure that the engine was flushed and free of water during the winter so that the motor didn't freeze and crack the block, etc. We now have new 21' boat with a Yamaha 150 4 Stoke. Do we still need to be concerned about wtaer remaning in the motor...

    Battery switch confusion

I just bought a new Caravelle Sea Hawk with dual batteries. The battery setup doesn't seem right to me. In my old boat with dual batteries, when the Perko battery switch was "OFF", then all boat power was off except for the bilge pump. On this new boat, I can start the motor and operate the boat...
