Thinking about building a boat this fall

Thanks for the input guys! Guess its worth saying I've owned dozens of "smaller boats" over the years from a barely 8' dingy to a 14' 60" beam aluminum. They all had their pros/cons. Really I'm wanting to do this more for the experience than anything, and if I can get something useful out of it...

Thinking about building a boat this fall

Hey guys! I’m thinking about building a boat this fall to replace my aging SIB. I have an 18’ pontoon which I use as my primary boat but like to have a smaller one for fishing in the fall/spring when water levels are low or when I want to go somewhere and don’t want to drag the big/heavy pontoon...

    Need Help on Transom Repairs

Thanks for the input guys. The boat is rated for 14hp so not sure why with repairs it wouldn’t be perfectly capable of handling a 9.9. I ran a 20hp on my old 10ft aluminum once. That was definitely overpowered. I didn’t pay anything for this boat so I’d still be money ahead if I can put a few...

    Need Help on Transom Repairs

Well, I couldn't resist doing a little investigation. I started by pulling off all the metal and wood pieces. It became evident at this point the transom had obviously been repaired previously, and poorly I may add. There was a sheet of fiberglass cloth running along the transom, that pulled off...

Ideas for balancing 12' Fiberglass Boat

Thanks for the input guys. I did go out for a bit today and tried a 60lb sandbag in the front. It seemed to help quite a bit. I know its not ideal- but it works. I am going to look out for a tiller extension!

    Need Help on Transom Repairs

Hey Guys! I recently picked up a 9.9 johnson to go on the back of my 12' fiberglass, for times where my 3hp lightwin just doesn't have enough umph (heavy wind/current/etc.). I've been working on getting the engine running good and believe I finally may have the upper hand on that one (still...

Ideas for balancing 12' Fiberglass Boat

Hey guys! Been a while since I've been around and just looking for some ideas. I have this 12' Sears Fiberglass boat that I have had for a long time. It has a variety of uses, but one of my favorite things is it can go in the back of the pickup and is easy enough for me to load/unload by...

    Deck Drains

Hi All, Have a 1985 Gregor Pontoon boat. about 3 years ago we redid the decking with new and refurbished a bunch of stuff while we were at it. Last year we had problems a couple of times with water accumulating in the back of the deck. One time in particular we had probably six inches or plus...

    1989 Yamaha WR500F Flush

So I have scoured the internet about a flush kit for my 89 Yamaha WR500. Can't seem to find one. Only thing I see is a small slot head bolt on the motor with the word wash by it. Somebody told me you can t into the water line somewhere? Where at? Anybody familiar with this unit? Thanks in advance.

    Any Ideas? (1998 Yamaha C40)

Motor: 1998 Yamaha C40 Not Oil Injected; Mounted on an 18 foot pontoon boat Since we repowered with this motor it has given us nothing but reliable year after reliable year. Unfortunately this year we ran into some problems. At any speed above idle, the motor runs normally. We see the same WOT...

    1985 Gregor Octapon Redecking

Recent motor issues lead us to decide to end the season semi-early and do this project. For about 3 years now a couple spots on the 'toon deck have been getting soft. At first it was no big deal but after a couple seasons it got to be pretty bad, especially in one spot right behind the helm. It...

    Laptops & Cases

    Greetings All.
I recently purchased a new laptop (yay), its and hp zx6130. Anyway, its a widescreen, so naturally finding a case is hard. I have a targus case, that, if you stretch it around, the laptop fits, however I am worried about strain. I don't have to push really hard, and I...

What kind of Campstove do you have?

I'll start- I have a (newly restored) 1972 Coleman 425 white gas stove. Dual Burner, not the best, but never leaves me without a stove. I like that the tank stores in the stove, so it is all in one package for transport.
I also have a wisperlite backpakers stove.

    Weedless Drive

I have a 3hp evinrude lightwin. It has the so-called "weedless" drive. I never have tried it in the weeds, but imagine it would do well. In the lake it won't do nothin'. Will only push my 10' boat about 2-3mph. Sounds like its straining to push it. Someone told me to put it on the furthest slot...
