    OMC 800 stringer

Yeah. Sounds like if I've eliminated everything else that may be the answer. I've also decided to add a up/down switch in the stern since I'm usually back there when I'm playing with this.

    OMC 800 stringer

Good idea. Tried it, still only goes up between halfway and 2/3 without some help. I have 12.75 volts at the connection to the tilt motor.

    OMC 800 stringer

Yeah I got it on Amazon. I'm sure there is a better source. The last one was supposed to be oem quality from e bay.

    OMC 800 stringer

I think I have everything cleaned up unless I'm missing something between the solenoids and the plug for the tilt motor. It occasionally lifts about half way by itself before it stalls but not always. I've kept the battery on a charger but I'm wondering if a bigger (group 27)? battery might...

    OMC 800 stringer

Ok. I received a new lift motor, fished the hammer blow pieces out of the bilge and got everything back together. Battery fully charged and its doing the same thing. Goes down great, does not want raise unless you give the drive a little lift manually. It's like it really wants to do it...

    OMC 800 stringer

I've got the quadrant gear out and the drive is lifted. I was able to get the worm gear out and the outer coupler piece fell out. I didn't see any plastic washers anywhere. Also I pulled the ring gear and clutch pack to clean everything up. Soaking the clutch pack in oil overnight. I I'll...

    OMC 800 stringer

Looking at it again it looks like the housing may be broken, the rear edge with the snap ring groove is mostly gone and the boss for the port side upper cover bolt is cracked. I've had this boat for 10+ years, I guess it's been that way the whole time. I'll still try to pull the shaft and the...

    OMC 800 stringer

Thanks. I've tried grabbing it with needle nose and forceps and can't get it to move. I sprayed the clutch housing out with brake cleaner, soaked the pack in oil and repacked with marine grease per recommendation from an old post. I'll go ahead and remove the clutch pack and clean again. I...

    OMC 800 stringer

Hi.. I'm trying to save an old Bayliner. The hull is in good shape and the 5.0 sbc purrs. I'm going through the tilt mechanism to try and get it working. The hammer blow coupling was in pieces. The inboard half came out with the tilt motor and I was able to fish the spring out but the...

1993 Carver 280 Express listing to port.

Thanks. That is something I'm considering as well. I've been looking at some information on surveyor use of moisture meters, it doesn't sound like that is a very reliable science on fiberglass boats either. Given that this isn't a high $ boat I'm not sure that I would spend the money to...

I was afraid I might hear that. I'll check into it. Thanks for the quick response!

1993 Carver 280 Express listing to port.

Hi all. 1993 280 Express. Boat lists to port about 2-3 inches, I'm pretty sure this isn't normal with no passengers. Galley and head are on port side but seems like it should be more balanced. Hot water heater on stbd side (6 gallons) It doesn't matter if the bilge is completely dry or not...

    93 vp aq570 with 280 drive hydrolocked??

Thanks. I haven't checked the coil in the hot water tank yet (kinda scared to find out, this boat had freeze damage to the block). I guess just pull the hoses and pressure test? If the hot water heater is toast I may just go tankless electric. That way I'll at least have hot water when I'm...

    93 vp aq570 with 280 drive hydrolocked??

That makes sense. The other end (return?) goes to a fitting on the starboard side of the circ pump. I'm not sure why they plumbed this one that way but it all looks factory legit. Wrapped in protective plastic and nicely fastened to the bulkhead with the other looms and plumbing.

    93 vp aq570 with 280 drive hydrolocked??

The hot water heater is plumbed to the freshwater system. The coolant from the block circulates through the hot water heater and back to the block to help heat the water in the heater when under power, acting as a heat exchanger. That's how the manual describes it and that how it looks to be...

Thank you sir. I'm hearing torque values from 26 to 30 lbs, sound about right? I may go 28, split the difference...

    93 vp aq570 with 280 drive hydrolocked??

Will do. It seems to pull water fine when in the river. Squirted out the manifold to riser joint robustly.

    93 vp aq570 with 280 drive hydrolocked??

Sorry missed that post. I'll need to look at that again but I believe it looks OK Now installing new riser gaskets part #857618, looked at prior posts, not sure Whether to use copper sealant or not. Surfaces are flat but there is very minor pitting on the inner lip of the exhaust jacket.
