    mercury 9.9 vs 15hp. is it just a carb difference

    For johnson and evinrude outboards, the difference between a 9.9 and 15hp is just the carb, everything else is the same so I am told. Is this the case for mercury also? If I want to make my merc 9.9 a 15hp, can I just get a 15hp carb and put it on? Thanks in advance.

    9.9 evinrude exhaust relief

    I picked up a 1978 9.9 evinrude. I started it up in a garbage bucket, started on 4 th pull after sitting all winter. Water comes out the pee hole fine, but little to none out the exhaust relief.     stripped threads on lower unit for gear lube plug

    I changed the oil in the lower unit and when I tightened the upper plug I gave it one last turn ( one too many) I stripped the threads on the lower unit ( not the plug threads, that would be too easy of a fix ) Has anyone had this problem and what did you do ? Thanks.
