    Does this need to be drained for winter on a 2.5L Mercruiser? It's an 1983. I've got everything else down with the winterization... I'm assuming that hose just drains out of the outdrive when the drive leg is down thanks to good ole gravity.

    My manual tells me to only use a straight weight but I see some people are throwing in 20w-40 (isn't that multiple viscosity?). What's the favorite oil among the 2.5/3.0 Mercruiser owners? Is it 4.0 Quarts with the filter? It's a 1983.

    I'm trying to make sure I stay on all the fun maintenance with my new (old) I/O. I hear drive oil tossed around a lot. I think it is, but I want to confirm that its the same thing as lower gear lube? Or is there something else in the out drive further up?

    Freezing tonight, to drain or not to drain?

    I've had my boat out 4 times and now it's going to get to 31 F tonight. Do I need to drain? Or is there no way the water in the block could freeze that fast? This my first I/O. Anyone have a link to a manual to locate freeze plugs? Specifics in sig. Thanks!

    I can hear the gears turning in the lower unit?

    I replaced my prop today and when I was turning it clockwise by hand (out of gear) I noticed I can hear the gears turning in the lower unit. I wouldn't call if loud, just enough to catch my attention. Is this common or should I shop for a new lower unit? See sig for specifics.
