    Tohatsu throttle problem

Plugs are clean and good. And I changed the carburetor. I'm planning to change the fuel pump later today. But there's something about the air you mentioned. It will only start with the throttle wide open and the choke completely open as well. Even with that it only idles.

    Tohatsu throttle problem

Hey all. I have a 2008 Tohatsu 9.8hp that will only start or idle with the throttle wide open. I can see the carburetor open when the tiller handle is turned, but the engine still just idles.

Sacrificial anodes on an aluminum hull - Advice needed

When it comes to sacrificial anodes on an aluminum hull is one enough or is it the more the merrier? Mine has a single anode on the transom. Would adding more to the hull be better or would it cause more problems than it solves?

    The 1986 Starcraft SS180

A little more progress. The boat has a 20 inch transom and the transom is solid. I saw no need to replace it. If I was to replace it I would have built it at 25 inches instead of 20. The boat originally came with a 1986 Johnson 115 with a 20 inch transom. It runs good but I have an Evinrude...

1966 Islander - Anyone had success installing a porta potty or other toilet solution in the bow/cabin area?

I second dingbat above. Cleaning a porta potty once is enough to make you get rid of it entirely. Five gallon bucket lined with a plastic trash bag is the way to go. It does sometimes take a bit of convincing to get women to use it. For example:

    The 1986 Starcraft SS180

Made a little more progress in between work and a few other things. The original foam is completely dry so I decided to leave it in place. There is a ski locker under the deck that I won't be using so I filled the void with 1.5" concrete backer rod for extra floatation. Backer rod is the same...

    The 1986 Starcraft SS180

I've heard that there used to be some chemical in paint stripper that worked really well but was banned a few years ago. I guess paint strippers don't work as well without it. I didn't want to knock Jasco at all. It just didn't seem to want to budge the type of paint on the boat. It did eat...

    The 1986 Starcraft SS180

Some of the progress I've made so far is removal of the floor and stripping the paint. I cannot say enough about how well Citristrip works. I tried Jasco epoxy and paint remover and it did nothing at all. But I did use the Jasco on something else and it worked fine.

    The 1986 Starcraft SS180

I'm slowly making progress on my first aluminum boat project. I'm more used to fiberglass boats so it's a bit of a learning experience. I haven't really been documenting it but I have some a few pictures of the progress so far. The plan is to end up with a center console similar to a Mariner...

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Congratulations on the new boat! There is a website I'll link to that can help decipher your HIN and maybe give you a model. I tried to run the one you posted but it pops up as invalid. It doesn't seem to be in proper form. Make sure you have the correct HIN or the DMV will have you jumping...

    Help with a drainage problem

I like the access holes. My boat already had two in it to access the fuel fill and fuel gauge sending unit of the under deck fuel tank. The original tank had a hole in it so I removed it and I'm using an above deck tank instead. But re-cutting the access holes will be easy enough. Thanks for...

    Help with a drainage problem

I never thought about that. It's a good idea. Funny you mention a butter knife. I cut a piece of 3/4" aluminum bar and used it to clean them out. I rounded off the end of it to make it go in easier. It looks just like the blade of a butter knife.

    Help with a drainage problem

Hi everybody. Recently bought a 1986 Starcraft ss180. So far I've gutted it and am in the process of rebuilding it. I'll post some pictures tomorrow of the progress (or lack thereof) if anyone's interested. The question I have is about drainage in the very bottom of the hull. At the lowest...

    Replacing rotten deck

It's best to cut one to two inches in from the hull. If you're cutting with a circular saw set the depth of the blade at about 3/4 inch. That will keep you from damaging anything. Do a reality check before cutting so that you don't hit anything obvious. Cutting a bit and then prying the floor up...

    In the process of Sanding?

Degreasing before sanding is always a good idea. There is that chance that oil or other contaminants can be ground into the hull by sanding over them. But since you've already sanded it's a moot point. The only thing to do is degrease now. It will most likely be fine. And you're right about...

A few questions about a Boston Whaler Squall

Most of the things you mentioned are just run of the mill repairs. But Boston Whalers are somewhat unique boats. There's a board called whalercentral.com that discusses nearly every year and model of Whaler. I'm sure someone there could give you specifics on your boat.

    Lund Rebel 1650 Leaking

There are two ways to repair the leaks in the rivets. There's product called Gluvit that's made to seal hairline cracks and leaky rivets. It's a brush-on epoxy. You can find it here: ] The other way is to drill out the rivets and replace them. It isn't hard to do but you'll need a couple of...

    Hope outboard ain't too heavt

The short answer is, it isn't going to hurt anything. An F90 weighs about 375 pounds, which is about the weight of two people. It will look a lot different than it did before now that the engine is sticking up above the transom but it isn't going to change anything.
