What is a CDI - troubleshooting help please!

Did search for CDI and came up blank. Having a problem with 115 TXRS. Trying to do the CDI test as per manual, do you have to disconnect wires from terminal block (other than the over-reve)? If it fails, then what? Please see Original Thread For specific info. Could really use some help.

Yamaha C115TXRS No start, no spark- intermittant

My C115TXRS has suddendly stopped starting. After sitting for a week (usually used 4-5 times a week) it was hard to start. Usually, I just choke it and give a little acceleration via the idle lever and it starts instantly. After priming the fuel bulb, etc, the motor started after a couple...

Yamaha 115 salvage engine- what parts to keep?

My 115ETLF (1989) was wrecked. The lower unit is chewed up and the powerhead was rolled over in the water. I have bought a 115TLRS (1994). Anyone know how compatible the two engines are? The carbs look similar. Can I save the starter? How about other electrical components? Any...

    115ETLF vs. 115TLRS?

My 89 ETLF was destroyed in storm. I have just purchased an 94 115TLRS Anyone know if the manuals from the 89 will work with the 94. The carb pictures seems identical.. Thought I could strip any workable parts from the 89. Are any electronics/electrical parts worth saving. The boat...

89 115 ETLF Timing question- pointer reset needed?

1st. step in manual is to use dial indicator on piston to position timing plate (indicator). Then paint over screw to discourage tampering with the adjustment. My question: Do you have to repeat this step in checking over engine. My guess is no, but thought I would ask to be sure. Thanks.

    115ETLF Fuel Gauge Display/Wiring

I'm trying to hook up a new gas tank to my fuel gauge. I have found the white and blue/white wires. At this time, the old tank was wired into the white wire. It just reads about 1/3 tank at all times by a hash mark along the right side of the gauge. I'm installing a Moeller tank- it comes...

115ETLF Carb question - CCW vs CW mix

Reading the Yamaha manual, it says to set the idle mix adjustment screws to 5/8 turn from seat. The Clymer manual says start at 1 7/8-2 3/8 turns and then adjust CCW 1/8 turn till engine starts to load up, then turn screws CW 1/16 turn at time until fires even and rpm increases. Does this...

115ETlf- pickup timing mark under flywheel?

This is going to be the end of my bulging disc! Is the timing mark for the pickup on the underside of the flywheel? There is a Cyl 4 timing mark on top, but I think I feel some sort of mark underneath that seems to be in a more appropriate position. The manual shows the pointer and the mark...

    115ETLF - where is #1

Seems too basic, but I paged through manual and couldn't find out which was # 1 cylinder. Bad disc in back prevents me from bending over the motor to look. Many thanks- need to check timing with light.

    115ETLF Tune-up & Carb questions

This motor would not idle properly when I got the boat. It was idling around 11-1200 rpm. I went through the shop manual and check the timing, carb pickup, carb sync, etc as per the shop manual in the order specified. The previous owner had screwed out the fully retarded adjusting screw to...

Carb rebuild 89 115ETLF What parts needed

I'm new to this forum. I boat on the Chesapeake Bay. After searching the forum, the net, and site store it seems that there is not a carb kit for my 89 115ETLF. The motor is new to me and the previous owner mentioned that he had tried to adjust the carb to get it to idle "better." At that...
