¿How do you look at it?

I'm using a Garmin 240 fishfinder. I thought I knew what I was looking at, but now I have doubts about the position of what I see at any given moment on my screen. My screen scrolls from right to left...

are the images on my screen as follows?: The left of the screen depicts the left side of the cone -- the center of the screen depicts the keel line of the cone -- the right side of my screen depicts the right side of the cone... i.e., a real-time exact immage of what is under my boat.

or.... since the screen scrolls from right to left (new images enter from the right side of the screen)...

does the right side of the screen depict what is entering the cone at the bow side of the cone... and the left side of the screen shows things that are exiting the stern side of the cone under my boat....

appreciate advice from anyone who knows the answer.

Howdy, Warhorse.

The vertical line at the right of the screen depicts what is under the transducer right now. It includes everything in the cone.

As that line moves left and is replaced by new real-time traces it simply records history. . . what you have recently passed over.

Objects at different locations in the cone all are integrated into that one trace. That is why we use 5* cones for very deep water and 20* cones for shallow.

Only the Interphase Sea Scout with multiple transducers in a phased array (like radar)displays objects at different locations seperately. :)
