01' 150 john staring issue.

Im having a minor issue I took the kids tubing and the motor ran fine for about 2 hours never shut it off,then I stopped it for about an hour, then it would start idle when in gear it would run for a second then die this repeted 3 more times then I started it and pushed the throttle bogged for a few seconds the it was like somthing cleared and she took off. it seemed to run a little funny once or twice but never did it agian. I have a getting bad ing swich but I cant see that being the problem.I need a little help in what ti look for.

What is your model number?
Is this carbed or injector?
Do you have a water seperator, check it lately?
Draw some fuel and check it for water by leaving it in a glass bottle for some minutes. It will settle out at the bottom.

ITs a J150 VLSIG well I dont have one on yet(just picked up the boat in march) But I have one coming.I will try to drain one of the bowls and see what I can trap.I do have a diesel water seperator with a fleetgard filter and its a 5 micron filter would that be to much for the fuel pumps to pull through?

I really hate vaccum systems can I run a small electric fuel pump?
