Had issue with boat not starting last week, tracked the problem down to faulty spark advance module. Ordered new module, installed along with new plugs (wires, cap, button all replaced last season). Checked timing, adjusted carb, and had the boat running pretty good. Took it out today, ran for about 30 minutes up the intracoastal and the boat stutters and then shuts down. After a tow I get home and troubleshoot and appears to be the spark advance again...
Is there anything that would cause this? Performed tests from Adults only on distributor fault tracing EST and seems normal to me:
TEST # - FINDINGS
Coil
1 - open (1 on meter)
2 - .006 ohms
3 - 8.65 ohms
Distributor
4 - open (1 on meter)
5 - 875 ohms
As a secondary question...
After replacing the advance module I was adjusting the timing and needed to bump it from 3ATDC to 2 ATDC. When turning the distributor the idle went from rough to perfectly smooth and rpm increased slighly. It sounded PERFECT. When i put the light on it 10BTDC?!?!?! I adjusted it back to 2ATDC and it sounded about the same as it has since I bought the boat. It idles without dying but has never sounded that smooth. What's up with that??
Thanks in advance for your help.
