2001 Yamaha 50hp. For some reason the motor will not crank over!! I've checked everything leading to the gas filter: Gas tank, bulb, line, connections and everything is working! I was told that there is a "needle" in the carberator that might be stuck not allowing gas to feed to the carbs?? Another thing I noticed, I was putting the boat in the water, and when it wouldn't start, there was no oil in the water from flooding the carbs? Usually, when you flood the carbs, oil leaks to the water surface.....none! Any suggestions??? Reason I ask.....I know it's something simple, and I hate to spend $200 - $300 dollars on repair or something simple. Anyway, thought I'd try askin first. Any help would be appreciated! One more thing, could it be the spark plugs? I'm not sure, but it was running, and then it wasn't!! Furthermore, not 2 months prior to this it started, and I ran it for 5 minutes.....it was a bit hard to start, but I got it started.

Thanks in advance for any advice

hello
remove the carb drain screws. if you have a carb with no fuel in it due to a needle stuck shut you will see it cause no gas will drain from it. extinguish all smokes and disconnect the battery before flushing and wash the cowl with soap and water and allow to dry. gasoline is an incredibly dangerous product that we take for granted to often.
good luck and keep posting
PS on some yamaha engines if the manual choke gets pushed in to far it locks the choke open.

Aaaannnndddddd the problem was......water in the tank! F**k! Can you believe that! I didn't think that was it, but it was. We hooked good gas up, and she fired right up!! Whew! That damn water, what a pain in the arse! Any suggestions as to minimize water or eliminate it in the tank!

-Dennis
