Last year I ran it on muffs and the impeller burned up as it needed changing and just I had just purchase the boat. I did all the fixes new pump kit with housing and pressure test lower unit and also installed new thermostats (143 degree).
Yesterday I tried to run my engine on muffs to test my NMEA2k engine gateway with Simrad IS35. Before I started the motor I primed the water separator with half seafoam and half gas. What I notice is after the engine started and ran for a bit, it never started peeing water. I ran my engine this time off of my freshwater washdown. I wanted to ask is this ok to run engine on muffs with freshwater washdown to ear muffs? IS that enough pressure coming through the pump?

After running for a bit I started to see little water start spitting out of the upper exhaust. I have attached a picture with pointers. Again after running for a bit I started to get a alarm sound. I could not tell what it was because the Gateway to 2k was not configured. The engine and reserve oil reservoirs are all full so I am under the assumption that the engine was letting me know it was going to overheat. I have read these 2.5l's take a while to pee and I could remove the thermostats and it should pee right away. Dont want to do that as it there for a reason. Nothing is blocking the passage ways I stuck a vacuum fitting to see if it would hold pressure it would not. Poppet valve maybe???

Here is a link to a video showing a different location where I saw water coming out of the mid section. This was just above the connection to the lower unit and mid section. Let me know thanks. Link here

So I call the manufacture today to ask a few questions about running the engine on the washdown systems. I was looking at the diagram of the unit and part 18 stood out at me while working on the engine. It was a plug that did basically nothing. I was curious if this was where I can attach a quick connect fitting to the engine and run the water hose to flush the block with or without it running. I called mercury and they told me yes that what that device is made for (only to be run at idle speed). In the image in my previous post it on the left of the tal tell. What i will do is just run a line from the inside of the engine through the rigging tube hooking it straight to the freshwater system. I will add a shut off valve to this line.

FYI
